Building Energy show

The Building Energy '09 show is this week (Tues-Thurs) in Boston at the Seaport World Trade Center. It's the largest show of it's type in the East. They bill it as the Conference and Trade Show for Renewable Energy and Green Building Professionals. A few of us will be going down, probably Thursday, so PM me if you'd like to join in and share gas.

OK, the white bus to this show is leaving Henniker in about 30 minutes. Stops could be made in Concord, Manchester and Nashua for those that want to attend. I'm out of passes, so attendance at the trade show would cost $30 per.

I was quite happy to discover that my project motorhome (which will be bringing me to NH permanently this summer!) is already equipped with solar.

Thus far, I hear about the AltExpo and others focus on solar, but does it emphasis HOME use or does it hit other aspects such as... say... RVs?

I bet the suppliers at the show can hook you up with stuff suitable for use on RV's, though most of the stuff they displayed or talked about at the show today was for homes and commercial buildings. There are some special concerns for automotive electrical use and I have seen some components for that, but I forget where. My electric vehicle friend in Maine has a line on all the suppliers of automotive electrical components. If you need anything in specific, I'll bet he would know where to find what you need.

Mark Weissflog of Clean Energy Technologies in Nashua was the 11AM Friday presenter at Alt Expo #3 (almost a week ago now) and he spoke primarily about home applications.

A few highlights of the Building Energy '09 Trade Show for me:

A company providing training courses on installing solar systems (both electrical and thermal). http://heatspring.com.

2 air solar system equipment suppliers, one of which offers a free seminar coming up in Montreal in a few weeks (Road Trip!). I may want to become a dealer for this product: Matrix Energy, http://matrixenergy.ca. The other product didn't look bad either: Northern Comfort from http://sunsiaray.com in Michigan.

A company from Lyme, New Hampshire with a wood gassification boiler product. They also had a pellet furnace with a 500# pellet capacity and a dual fuel one that would also run on corn. BioHeat USA, http://bioheatusa.com

An interesting, easy to assemble mounting system for PV solar panels to go onto flat roofs (Polar Bear from Panel Claw, Inc.). Distributed exclusively by GroSolar out of White River Junction, Vermont. http://grosolar.com

A vertical axis wind turbine from Energy Revolutions from Nantucket, Massachusetts, http://energy-revolutions.com (I didn't stop to chat with them, since they were busy with someone - I meant to come back, but forgot to.)

A couple of new brands of solar vacuum tube collectors: Nava, by NTS of Weymouth, Massachusetts, http://nts-solar.com & s/power from Germany, also sold by NTS.

Wilo high-efficiency intelligent circulator pumps with a VFD drive on the motors, http://wilo-usa.com or http://wilo-na.com, and distributed by Capco Energy Supply of Woburn, Massachusetts, http://capcosupply.com

a couple of other products that are not near as sexy, like windows,

Co-op Power, an operation out of Greenfield, Massachusetts that is set up to allow people to pool resources to build alt. fuel facilities (bio-diesel processing, etc.), to group people together on energy products (solar barn-raisings, sort of) and to pool solar equipment purchases. http://cooppower.coop - I asked if we could get a group of us up here as a satellite chapter and they said yeah, so I'll try to put together an AltExpo "Co-op Day" to present several different co-op projects, food, energy & habitation.

There's a Sustainable Energy Summit coming up on May 1-2 at the UMass Amherst Campus Center, sponsored by Co-op Power.

The guys from Yestermorrow Design/Build School in Warren, Vermont loved the idea of the Alternatives Expo and are a good prospect to present to us on building techniques. http://yestermorrow.org.

I got a lot of good info out of the show, even though I was only there for about 1.5 hours. I got right to the point with them and didn't stop at any booths where I already knew about their procucts.
