Battered person syndrome: A whole nation abused

I thinking of odd ball legal strategies and went to wikipedia to read about battered person syndrome:

Battered person sydrome is when a person "becomes depressed and unable to take any independent action that would allow him or her to escape the abuse. The condition explains why abused people often do not seek assistance from others, fight their abuser, or leave the abusive situation. Sufferers have low self-esteem, and often believe that the abuse is their fault. Such persons usually refuse to press criminal charges against their abuser, and refuse all offers of help, often becoming aggressive or abusive to others who attempt to offer assistance. Often sufferers will even seek out their very abuser for comfort shortly after an incident of abuse."

It seems to me that the whole nation suffers from battered person syndrome and the abuser is government. It's too bad it can't be used as a legal defense, but it explains why people allow government to do what it does.

I've got an old Libertarian Party ad, with Harry Browne as candidate, called "Battered Voter Syndrome".

In all seriousness, my wife's experience in the government school system has left her with emotional distress and symptoms similar to childhood physical, sexual or emotional abuse. I wouldn't be surprised to find that this is a lot more common than people realize.

Well should we file restraining orders against them?

Perhaps they should be registered and not allowed within 1000' of a school, playground, or anywhere else that children congregate?  ;)
