List of free ways to help NH liberty from anywhere

Here's a condensed list of mostly free things *you* can do from nearly any location to help liberty in New Hampshire. Here are also resources to get you started.  Locals like me are already doing many of these action items, but it would be even better if we had more "Foreign Legion" helping us too!

) The best thing you can do is probably the peaceful act that is in your heart and fun for you.  But don't forget to tell people about it...as a rule, broadcast your accomplishments on this thread!

) Post or discuss NH liberty news on social media and web forums. Here's a list of NH forums and also many outside:
http://nhunderground.com/forum/index.php?topic=2613.0

) Post or promote NH liberty-related events on FaceBook or other calendars.  The person who started the event can only invite so many folks.   One thing I like to do, if I can't be at a good event, is decline then click invite.  I invite pretty much all the folks who are in listed as "Manchester" friends.

) *Phone* in NH liberty news to hundreds of free staters via 603-413-0411 - http://porcupine411.com
Sort of like the calendar above except you just use the phone to alert us.   Your news could be anything from an upcoming event to a police raid in progress.  It should be NH related.

) Call Free Talk Live with NH news or dicussion:   1-855-450-FREE
On average you'll be on hold about 30 minutes and reach hundreds of thousands of listeners.

) Peaceably protest crackdowns on NH liberty activists. If outside NH you could be in front of your nearest Federal building or U.S. embassy.   This is a case where your distance from New Hampshire can be a magnifier. For instance, say Lauren Canario from New Hampshire gets arrested again for protesting in an IRS office, but you live in Geneva.  If you show up outside the U.S. embassy in Switzerland with a sign, the effect could be significant.  If you videotape it, and post the vid to YouTube, or bring friends, or get a local reporter to cover it the effect could be outright electric.  I'd probably cover any such protest on RidleyReport.com.  Its results would be completely out of proportion to the effort expended. This is becoming more dangerous than it used to be....so be cautious but not too afraid.  I did something not so different *inside* the Bulgarian embassy *while* the Iron Curtain was still up.

) You could protest instead at a busy street corner...probably safer and more will see you.  Make sure there's a short URL on your sign, preferably FreeStateProject.org.  Again...organizing even the most innocuous sign wave can occasionally get you arrested.  And you don't want that to happen before you make the move, it could tie you to your local tyranny.  So here are items that are even safer:

) Attend NH liberty related events if/when you're in state.  All the calendars I know of are listed at http://nhunderground.com/forum/index.php?topic=20407.msg320242#msg320242

) Read and review bills for the New Hampshire Liberty Alliance:
http://NHLiberty.org

) Make your own YouTube channel (or use a different hosting service) aim a camera at yourself, talk about NH liberty news.  Be sure to put good keywords in your video descrip and tag section or the video will be seen by very few.

) Write a letter-to-the-editor discussing some liberty issue and mentioning FreeStateProject.org.  Send it to a liberty-leaning newspaper, or any paper in your area.  It works best if you respond to something the newspaper itself reported on.  Anyone want to post a list of liberty-leaning national papers which run LTEs?
  _______

) Build news releases and send them to appropriate media outlets:
______ (link to follow hopefully...who do you think are good outlets to contact?)
How to get media coverage:
   http://freestateproject.org/about/essay_archive/mediarelations.php

) Call radio talk shows and discuss interesting liberty events which have happened in NH.
_____  (Link to follow hopefully....do you know some good talk shows that we can call?)

) Make a list of good talk shows to call and post it on this thread...the most valuable type of show for this purpose is one where you can call in and change the topic.  The national one I know of like this is http://FreeTalkLive.com

) Contribute money to effective pro-liberty institutions or candidates here.   Here's a partial list:
http://nhunderground.com/forum/index.php?topic=17485.0

) Post FSP-related flyers in hi-traffic areas.  Here are some off the shelf....you might need to modify them so they have tear-offs:
http://www.freestateproject.org/volunteer/downloads

) Start a cable access show in your area, using it to promote the Free State Project.  Feel free to run the RidleyReport on it until you hear otherwise. You probably will never hear otherwise.

) Have your local cable access station run the Ridley Report outright...no need to do your own show that way!

) Buy from NH liberty activists and their advertisers.  There are plenty of things you were already going to buy this month...why not buy them from NH liberty folk:
http://nhunderground.com/forum/index.php?topic=17484.0
http://ridleyreport.com/Trade

) Write NH prisoners
Sometimes NH liberty activists end up in jail for victimless crimes.  Also there are some Brown supporters who received unspeakable sentences for assisting an elderly New Hampshire couple during their standoff with U.S. Marshals.  Writing any of the above would be constructive.  The Browns and their backers are probably the most in need. Here are some ways to contact NH political prisoners....often without even leaving your computer:
http://porcmail.com
http://Mail-To-Jail.com -
http://nhunderground.com/forum/index.php?topic=22022.msg342251#msg342251
  - This last will get you to the Brown supporters themselves

) Vacation here instead of the "nanny states."  NH is fun year round.  But there are four great liberty events that happen annually:

http://FreeStateProject.org/LibertyForum - big, indoors, usually around February,  convention-style + wild parties
http://PorcFest.com - biggest event, in summer
http://LiveFreeOrDieRally.com - Live Free or Die Festival - Annually in Jaffrey, NH...usually late August.  Big Rev War re-enactment.
http://KeeneFreedomFest.com - Smallest event but is sometimes in fall...the prettiest season.  It's also illegal or at least used to be.

) Join these NH liberty-related forums or websites as a member/subscriber:

http://NHLiberty.org - Political organizers in New Hampshire, tolerant but not very active.
http://Forum.NHFree.com
http://Forum.FreeKeene.com
http://bbs.FreeTalkLive.com
http://Forum.FreeStateProject.org - Folks around the country planning to move to NH for more freedom
http://YouTube.com/RidleyReport - Poor man's TV newsroom featuring NH liberty news

) Shoot and upload some video.  Or better yet a re-enactment of some NH liberty event (usually an arrest) that was not successfully recorded.  E-mail me thru RidleyReport.com if you want specific ideas and details for events that would lend themselves to re-enactment.  In terms of simple video, here is an explanation of the types of vid I'm usually low on:
youtube.com/watch?v=5SIHTWsKF_I

) Contact media outlets in your area to see if you can talk them into doing a story about us.   This will probably only work if you give them something "local" to photograph: A protest, a publicity stunt or better yet a shot of you packing your U-Haul on the way out of their Nanny State!  Here are some tips on interacting with the media:
http://freestateproject.org/about/essay_archive/mediarelations.php

) Subscribe to http://Porcupine411.com
When messages come in detailing the locations of checkpoints or speed traps...maybe post them to Trapster.com or other sites that track predators.

) Help me improve this list by replying with other suggestions for activism.

) Attend liberty or civic events in NH:  http://ridleyreport.com/Calendars

) Whatever you do, share it with us!  Don't be too humble; brag about your activities and accomplishments on our behalf!  It's good for our morale! This thread is as good a place as any.

) Direct people to this list of action items.

Long before I moved here, I found the activism I did for NH from afar was safer and more rewarding than what I did for my old location.  Don't waste your activism trying to save New York or something...use it efficiently.  Aim it at your future home, where it counts.

Also here's a list of action items and resources that are more for people inside NH:

This is a great fund raiser for the FSP.

Why not down size for your move to NH. ;D

We are looking for all sorts of donations.  Not just Pro Liberty stuff.
We have had everything from books, music, t-shirts, posters, maps, auto graphed memorabilia, jewelry, house wares, gift certificates, knives and even a kayak.

If you are going to the festival you can bring it with you.

If you can't attend then you can mail me the donation.  Just contact me for shipping information.

We had over 70 items last year and I would love to top that.

Thanks Kate

) Make a list of good talk shows to call and post it on this thread...the most valuable type of show for this purpose is one where you can call in and change the topic.  The only ones I know of like this are http://freetalklive.com and Talkback on WKBK in Keene, NH.

Unless there is something extremely unusual happening, please do not call into Talkback unless you live in or are visiting the Keene area.

) Post FSP flyers in hi-traffic areas.   I didn't find this to be super effective but try it if you like.
__________ (link to follow hopefully)

Here is a great list of FSP flyers, http://www.freestateproject.org/volunteer/downloads
More are in development.

Quote) Write NH prisoners
Sometimes NH liberty activists end up in jail for victimless crimes.  Also there are some Brown supporters who received unspeakable sentences for assisting an elderly New Hampshire couple during their standoff with U.S. Marshals.  Writing any of the above would be constructive, although of course the Brown backers are more controversial.   Here's more info on some options for contacting prisoners:

Mail to Jail is a fantastic source for this, http://www.mail-to-jail.com/

The Keene prosecutor seems to think this event is now legal and was always legal, he just had wasn't very framilar with the law relating to the 1st Amendment of the US Constitution until recently.  Hopefully he will start following the law now.  Also, the event happens more than once per year.  The next Free Keene Festival is happening on May 23rd.

The NH Free Press needs your help!  They type of help we need can all be done by out of state people.  We can always use articles.

Nonviolent Means – Education

I hear libertarians so often say that their goal is to educate people.  I share this goal of disseminating the ideas of liberty.  The way I've chosen to do that is to print the New Hampshire Free Press.  There are certainly other effective means of doing this – The Ridley Report and Free Talk Live come to mind, being active in New Hampshire.  The New Hampshire Free Press fills a different niche.  I reach out to the people on the street, ones who are not necessarily "wired" in our modern world.  A lot of people like to have something physical to hold on to, it makes the ideas more real for them.  The paper currently is distributed to stores all around Southern NH, from Plymouth to Manchester to Keene.  It is delivered to colleges in an attempt to capture young minds.  It may be the only anarchist newspaper in the country.

I also think I am the only person doing FSP type outreach to the prisons.  The paper goes out to prisons around NH and to at least 20 other prisons around the country.  Whenever I hear of a political prisoner, I track down his (or her) address in prison and send him a free subscription.  Any time a prisoner ask me, I also send him a free subscription.  Each newspaper gets passed all around the prison.  In the past month or so, I've had two political prisoners write to tell me they want to join us when they get out.  These are the people who, other than those killed, have been most brutalized by government.  Often, they don't even realize how laws like drug prohibition are wrong.  The New Hampshire Free Press gives them much needed information and ideas.

Gandhi also ran a newspaper disseminating the ideas of nonviolence, and informing people about activism.  He quickly found that the business community was not able to stick their necks out to support such radical ideas with their advertising.  So he switched to operating on donations.  This we have also done.  Unfortunately, the major funding that has kept the paper going these past three years has run out.  I'm looking at only being able to print once every two months unless I get some more donations.  So I'm asking you, let me help you reach your goal of educating people about libertarian ideas.  If you can help, please visit our donations page:
http://www.newhampshirefreepress.com/subscriptions.html

If we are to fight a nonviolent revolution, one of the main avenues of activism must include getting our ideas out, giving people a chance to think about how a society based on non initiation of force could exist.  Often people have not even considered that such a society is possible.  We can show the ideas in action through our activism.  The paper lets people know about what we're doing, because we know the mainstream media does not want to cover these things.

I'd like to thank our current supporters for their courage and generosity in making sure the New Hampshire Free Press keeps happening:

FreeKeene.com
Jason Osborne/Sakal CAI
Paul Ott
Jacob Halbrooks
Mike Barskey
Phil Denisch
Jeremy Furbish

I'd also like to thank people who have been helping with their content, people like Dale Everett who produces the wonderful comic Anarchy in Your Head, the Free Keene bloggers, Jim Dodson with his Spines comic strip, and many more authors who generously allow me to print their articles.  Without these people, the paper just wouldn't happen!

Bump.  Just updated this list.  Added this action item among others:

) Help me improve this list by replying with other suggestions for activism.

Dave Ridley

I've update the action item list again and am sad that so few seem to be acting on it.   If you do perform one of these "missions" for us, or whatever you do for us, please post a message on this thread letting us know!  Don't be so humble!

Dave Ridley

Updated the list again.  What do you think needs to be added...

Sheep Fuzzy Wool

I never read this thread before as it is full of inspiration. I will re-read it and start to get the nerve to do something. Anything.

Thanks for all of your ambitious suggestions.

When Ridley got some of his You Tube videos banned I was able to download most of them to a spare harddrive. I am pretty sure I didn't get all of them, I did get 1932 of them. Plus I am staying on top of the new ones coming out. But another gentleman Alex Libman I believe developed an elegant solution to secure the videos plus make them available for download.
http://libman.us/dl/ridley/index.html

Alex Libman

Hiya.

The current solution is nowhere close to elegant, but it does store ~38 GB of ridley videos in WebM format on a high-speed CDN.  The next step of this project would be to make use of the metadata I'm already scraping from YouTube to create a perty HTML5 viewer interface, but that is a low-priority back-burner issue for me right now.

bump.  i could use some help filling in the blanks in the original post.

I will add that if you listen to 107.7 FM The Pulse in the general area of Concord, you will likely see opportunities to call in during the weekday afternoons.   Local topics.
