Free NRA membership (it looks like the deal is dead now, YMMV)

the nra is offering free  memberships right now, I normally would not join, because there are better organizations out there to give my money too... but for the cost of free I will join them.   :flower:

They want to have a nice big membership list to turn over to the feds for gun confiscation.  :P

Even with a free membership, I'm not sure I wanna join. The NRA does some good work in some places, but one of the most important issues to me is felon ownership of guns, and from what I have seen in the past, they're hostile to the idea.

I think I'd rather support a pro-gun NH group and work on getting New Hampshire out of the "N" in NRA.  8)

you can also get a ss# for free too

The NRA sucks in the same way the big 'evangelical' religion-for-the-masses churches suck; they don't back up what they say they believe in with their actions. They can keep their 'free' membership. In fact, they couldn't pay me to join them.

Join the GOA instead.

Great organization! I got some criticism on one of the forum for "making 'perfect' the enemy of good" but I really wish principled folks would support the GOA and make THEM the largest pro-gun lobby. :)

Agreed.

Only time I've ever joined was when I was required to in order to joined a local range here.  Evidently almost all ranges get their insurance though the NRA and as a stipulation they are required to have a large percentage of their members be NRA members.   :P

The NRA is a great organization and the free 1year membership is a great offer.  They fully support our rights as gun owners and they have enough "cred" at this point to make a difference on the big stage.  They also have a lot of resources to make a difference.

QuoteThank you for joining the NRA by accepting the one-year gift membership, and for your great support of the Second Amendment as an NRA member!

In addition to your insurance coverage and other benefits, your NRA is always looking for ways to make your membership more valuable and rewarding. Below you'll find just a few of the benefits and services available to you right now.

Thanks again for being part of our NRA family!

big +1

Really?

They don't support Joe's rights, nor Mark's, because they have felony convictions.

They don't support Ian's rights, because he partakes of the demon weed (possession of a firearm while addicted to, or an unlawful user of, any controlled substance is a felony violation of the Gun Control Act of 1968, as amended).

Rather than being neutral on this issues, the NRA not only supports, but actively partners with local and federal government agencies to pursue firearms possession by such "prohibited persons". Ever heard of Project Exile?

It would be a shame to sign up, then a month down the road and resign by calling them and telling them to remove you as a member for those reasons you listed....  >:D It would be really horrible if a whole bunch of people did it.

Ogre

The NRA also operates on a position of political expediency, not rights or positions. For example, once I ran for election against a fellow who was strongly opposed to anyone owning a gun. However, the NRA refused to support me because he was simply too powerful. They told me that they couldn't afford to anger him by supporting his opponent. I was as pro-gun as you can get (I see nothing wrong with bazookas).

For me, it's not that they don't support our rights.  It's that they actively oppose them.

QuoteThe program was designed to address gang violence which had long plagued Richmond. At the time of its inception, the level of murders and shootings had regularly increased each year, with Richmond ranking in the top five murder-per-capita rates for the country.

as for the other stuff,

I dont consider a plant that grows in the dirt an illegal or controlled substance.

I dont know what felonies they were convicted of or circumstances surrounding the charges etc.  I'm also not going to debate weather or not convicted felons should have the right to bear arms or not.  I actually dont have a very strong stance on that issue to be honest.

That is only because the government has not made you a felon, yet.
