Wanted: A new Wolfman at Clark's
By LORNA COLQUHOUN
Union Leader Correspondent

LINCOLN – It hasn't been easy finding a successor to fill the well-worn, if not a little smelly, shoes that Bill Farrand has filled for the past 15 years, but the folks at Clark's Trading Post are trying.

In their search for someone who is primal, who can balance the fine line between being scary and being endearing and loved by children, a unique call is out to the wild coming up on Saturday, Think Geico caveman, but less evolved. Think of mothers wondering whether to hide their children. Clark's is crying wolf.

"We need someone to be the new Wolfman," said Carol Govoni, who is organizing a Wolfman job fair on Saturday. "On the exterior, he must be rather unkempt and scruffy, but most important, he has to connect with kids."

The new Wolfie, as he is affectionately known, must be over 18, be willing to grow a beard and eschew soap, and work up to 48 hours a week for $12 an hour.

The Wolfman, for the uninitiated, is one of Clark's Trading Posts most unique attractions, aside from, of course, the trained bear shows, which celebrate their 60th anniversary this summer.

During the daily steam train rides aboard the White Mountain Central Railroad, it's the Wolfman's job to scare the beejeebees out of the passengers, whom he believes are trying to jump his precious Unobtainium claim. He bursts out of the woods driving an ancient automobile, sets off firecrackers and yells at passengers to go home.
...
For those who would like to embrace their inner Wolfman, the auditions will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, at the Lin-Wood Public School in Lincoln.

Hopefuls should dress the part and Clark's will provide props. They'll have three to five minutes to yell, scream and mutter. The top contestants will be asked back for a second audition; the new Wolfman will be announced next month.

I wonder if Kenny Rogers from Jackass will try out, or the boogar hut hermit.
