I would check out the comic shop across the street - those are usually good places to meet to play.  Then people can go to someone's house if they are ok with that.  I wonder if Panera would allow it to go on in their restaurant.

As far as I know, it is role-playing when you play the role.  If you read the background on it, you are supposed to be a wizard casting spells on the plane of Dominaria.  The spell effects and creatures in the game exist independently of the actual physical cards and the zones are just conceptual organizers.
