Hey JP...Word I get is you are doing Red Cross classes Saturday or is it Sunday?  Then you are
off to save the folks in New Orleans, bright and early Monday morning!

Hey guy, consider me a concerned friend.  Would be most interested in hearing were you end
up Monday night!  Please let me know if I can be of any assistance. :)

Good luck, JP.  Don't forget to bring a supply of FSP flyers!

You never know, Russell...You just might be right! I have to say that Scott has some good points there too.

Today, the national American Red Cross rejected me for deployment to the Gulf for two reasons. :'(

1.? No national volunteers can have a felony or misdemeanor that resulted in imprisonment within the last 24 months.? Not even if you were imprisoned for 1 day.? ?::)

2.? All volunteers are required to have health insurance.? ????? Who can possibly afford health insurance these days, especially the self-employed?? ????

If JP does not meet both of these criteria then he cannot be deployed either.? ?:(

Lloyd Danforth

These Red Cross people are rather picky.  I would think they would have some kind of blanket insurance for temporary volunteers.  I'll bet their employees have a GREAT health policy!
You are, however, a criminal ;D, but, their still picky.

I hope you got as much free training as you could.

Yeah, they won't take my blood because I lived in Germany from 1986-89. I could be a "mad cow" timebomb!

You really should think about getting health insurance or at least join 1 or 2 of those discount plans.  All you have to do is have your wife work part-time for a company that offers insurance, like Costco.  It's only like 25 hours per week.  Also, check out the people that Dave Ramsey recommends for small bus.  Or, at the very least, look into a health savings account.

If you want to go, I'm sure there's an independent agent out there who will sell you a health plan for cheaper than you would believe. Just tell him you want the cheapest thing he can sell, benefits are not a factor, and you can walk out with a plan in hand. Just guessing, I figure $100 a year, for a plan with a $100,000 deductible and $101,000 max benefit. ;)

You can find catastrophic health insurence with a $3000 deductible for not too much these days.

Catastrophic health insurance is what I would need to get.  But I find it absurd that the ARC would reject people who do not have health insurance, as though the Red Cross would somehow be liable for them.   ::)

As far as insurance goes, we're paying off our debts as quickly as possible.  When our debts are all paid off, we'll save up enough money to be self-insured.  We may not even need car insurance anymore if we're self-insured.

The car insurance requirement for driving is a racket and the health insurance requirement for ARC volunteerism is pointless.  1/6th of Americans are thus rejected by the ARC for lack of health insurance.

And the imprisonment restriction is ridiculous.  The ARC is far too lawful in that respect.  Did the Red Cross exist in Nazi Germany during WW2?  If so, did they refuse help from the countless people that were imprisoned by the Nazis?  Do they have any idea how many laws there are in this world today?  It's impossible to comply with all of them.  They're essentially rejecting me for being a civil rights activist.  By these guidelines, the Red Cross would have refused help from Gandhi, Jesus, and Martin Luther King.  ::)

I'll bet Amethste loved this part.

I am with you Mike .... I haven't had medical insurance for years ..... some people are shocked by this ....... why pay insurance that you will never use?
