Big moth question

I saw one of these moths last night, it was gigantic and just hanging out on the window screen for hours.  It was outside or I would have left the house.  Then when Rick got home, there was another one I didn't see and it kept flying at his back.  :o

Are these really common in New Hampshire?

Lauren and I saw two of them last week in Pisgah Park.  They where sitting on a tree being really friendly towards each other.

Lauren says, "Dr. Doolittle rode one to the moon and back."

It might just be that Dr. Doolittle is really small.

I don't know how common they are in NH, but luna moths are cool. I see them every year when I camp in northern Arkansas the last weekend of April.

They're tough critters. One of my fraternity brothers has a reputation for getting drunk and eating strange things on a bet. He tried a luna moth, but when it started flapping its wings about halfway down, he hurled, and the moth flew away.  ;D

Here's a photo of a luna moth I found outside our house in the Berkshires:

You have a house in the Berkshires and you don't join the FSP?  ::)

I moved here before my political wings sprouted. Now, I'd like to move back to the state of my birth, Wyoming, or to Montana. But New Hampshire is just as far away for my family, who have roots here, so, unless I decide to leave my wife, which is not out of the question, I'll be here at least until my daughter leaves the house, in 6-10 years. Maybe the whole thing will collapse by then, and it'll be too late. Or maybe not. If the grid goes, I'll likely swallow my shotgun. Not interested in life in the wild. Not part of my contract.

In any case, I've moved past political activism, realizing that the majority of humanity doesn't, and never will want to be free. I've returned to my original belief that there are no political solutions to any problem. Politics is itself the world's major problem. So I'll just live as free as I can, for the few years I have left on the planet, ignore the crazies in politics as much as possible, and try to stay out of the way when the dinosaur falls over dead.

Life is good, but confusing, for a bundle of contradictions.
