Does anyone really want us attacked?

QuoteMichael Scheuer, on Glenn Beck's show last night:

Scheuer: The only chance we have as a country right now is for Osama bin Laden to deploy and detonate a major weapon in the United States. Because it's going to take a grass-roots, bottom-up pressure. Because these politicians prize their office, prize the praise of the media and the Europeans. It's an absurd situation again. Only Osama can execute an attack which will force Americans to demand that their government protect them effectively, consistently, and with as much violence as necessary.

Beck: Which is why, I was thinking this weekend, if I were him, that would be the last thing I would do right now.

Does anyone else feel this way? Do we really want to be attacked?

doobie

If something like that happened, our liberties would be gone over night.  We'd all be criminals until proven innocent for a moment, set free then criminals again.

They (govt types) seem to want another attack on american soil.  That's why they keep meddling in other people's affairs.  I'm sure they have plans on how to keep themselves safe if it does happen.  As doobie mentioned, it would be the rest of us who suffer.

Sad to say, tomgnh, I think some do.  Unfortunately, the far right neo-cons are fighting for their political lives and they view another attack as the most expedient way to re-insert themselves.

Every time I read crap like this, I'm shocked.  Then, I'm awed at my own stupidity.  Why should I be surprised at Cheney - who lied us in to war for reasons entombed in his addled brain with no regard for the Americans and Iraqis who would die, or for the military families holding down the fort during multiple deployments, - for preaching this gospel?  Why am I surprised to hear his daughter demonstrate that nuts don't fall far from their trees, either?  Why am I surprised that others are joining the chorus?  These are the "stay the course" people, the "embrace democracy (their own modified version) or I'll blow you and your country to hell" crowd, the "this is a christian nation" folks, the "freedom means you are free to do what I tell you" ideologues.  This is what they do.

Terrorism it's the new communism.

First they needed money for weapons to fight the communist USSR and now they need your freedom to fight people that live in dirt caves.

"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary."

i don't
the government guys do
they might even have osama do it .... even if from the grave

If the powers that be want it... it will happen just like before. They'll blame it on whoever they need to as the "boogeyman". My bet is that the next U.S. Reichstag fire will be blamed on "domestic" terrorists.  :'( ::)

Webster

You're right... the next attack will be from inside. And it'll take the feds forever to solve it because the hew and cry will be to "get those terrorists" and "attack that country".

The government people know how to respond to violence. Their entire existence is predicated upon violence and control. Ethically, I abhor violence upon innocent people. Practically, even disregarding the ethical side, a violent attack will not REDUCE the role of government anymore than pouring gasoline on a fire will extinguish it.

I'm convinced that the government school system is so dangerous because it confuses "cause" and "effect". When people don't like the results of government today, the answer is all too often "more government". When people don't like the violence and aggression of the state, the answer is all too often "more violence and aggression".

I'm so glad most people here are beyond that.  :)

you lose all creditability when you simply say "cheney" or "bush" every single one of them (politicians, even around the world) is involved.

Right back at you, violence.  If you can't tell the difference between a brief comment, that was on topic since the original quote came from a staunch Bush/Cheney foreign policy supporter in criticism of current policies, and a complete statement of a position on politics in general, then you won't earn credibility from me.  Judge much?
