Insurance and Registration

I have been having quite a hrd time with this. I know it is hard to tell me how much it would be to register my car, but I wanted to ask. I have a 93 Eagle Talon. I pay almost $300 a month for insurance here. Recently, they cancelled it because they are idiots. I gave them the check a month ago and it still hasn't cleared. Now, being that I am 21 and jobs are hard to come by here in NY, my Dad wants me to get my car insured somewhere else. Why? If I am going to be moving in 3 or less months, why waste the money. I wanted to know how much the average car is to register. I know the licence is $50. But I plan to complete the registration process within the next 3 weeks. If you can't tell, I am very very confused right now. Getting out on my own is harder than I ever thought it would be.  If you can help me with these questions, I would very geartly appreciate that. Thanks, Jenna

I know insurance here will be cheaper than NY. 8)

Just being 21 is hard. I remember and wouldn't go back if you paid me.

There is a bit of hassle with registering vehicles. They don't ask for proof of insurance here, so you have to make that call. On a car more than 10 years old, registration/tax is not very much. The state portion is a flat fee of about $37 and the town/city part is based on age of the car. Our 2 year old car was only $263 for a year. The town clerk at the town offices can guide you through the process. Then go to the DMV for plates which will cost something. Then you have 10 days to get an inspection sticker.

Good luck

I know. I think after all my mere 21 years, I am having the hardest time now. I am realizing how much Daddy isn't going to be around forever to take care of me (not that I have been completely reliant on him, I have worked since I was 17.) and I have to eventually get out on my own, no matter where it be. I find that NH is the best for me. "Live free or die" is the best quote I ever had seen. And it is totally me.

Funny you should mention Daddy. During my darkest times, when everything is falling apart, a teeny tiny totally irrational voice inside of me says my Daddy wouldn't let this happen to me.

I know he wouldn't that is why he won'thelp. His way of keeping me close. I love him with all that I am, but the umbillical cord always ends up getting cut.

If you do it in Manchester, you can get everything done in one office.  I tried to do it in Nashua without being able to drive my car, and it was impossible.  The state fee in Manchester is about 1% of your car's blue book value.  If you are looking for work, there are freestaters here in Manchester who can help. (The city has been mentioned a few times as a free city project, and most city-dwelling freestaters are living in Manchester.)

There are also a lot of places to rent here, and there are freestaters who can help you find work here in the city.  I have seen lots of Help Wanted signs, if you are willing to get started in entry level work.

Mr. Abramson,
Thank you so much for that information. I am trying so hard to save up so that my boyfriend and I don't have to live out of either our car(s) or someone's courtesy for the time being. That tid bit on the percentage they carge is very helpful. I think here in NY, they charge something like 6 or 8 percent of the value. It's insane here. Everytime I turn around, someone new is asking me for my money. Welcome to adluthood.

I am planning on registering my two cars this week.

I will report back exactly what I pay.

My ins went down about 20% from CA rates.

$100 per year maybe.  It's not too expensive for a car that old.

Just call a random Town Hall and ask.  They'll be able to tell you.

Hey man, as long as gets you from point A to point B, and hopefully back alive, it's a good vehicle in my eyes.   :)

That's almost my exact requirements for a vehicle:

"It has to get me from point A to point B safely and efficiently." 8)

Point A and B exchange themselves every time I get in the car.

Same here, but also I don't buy anything I can't pay for, and I won't buy a car designed by Hitler.  Other than that, I don't care.

Caleb

No car designed by Hitler, eh?

How about a car designed by Ford, who donated money to Hitler?
