Don't associate with Ryan Marvin.

I watched a show the other day and didn't think that either party humiliated themselves, only the Judge.

From a PR standpoint it won't do the FSP any favors

I find no reason to even bring it up if we were on such a show. It's Brinck and I vs. Ryan, and the FSP has nothing to do with it.

...Blah Blah self-righteous Blah Blah other people aren't as cool as me...

Are you this much of a dick in real life, or just on the internet?

So what if we did our own "court show"?  We could have Judge AnCap, and Ridleograph the whole thing.

You'd probably have a failure to appear charge you could levy against Ryan too.

i like it ... makes fun  of the court system too :)

You could mix this idea with a fear factor like show: For every worm or rocky mountain oyster or monkey brain he eats at the end of the trial he get would get X of the amount off that the court determined was owed... (if found guilty) Proceeds made from web advertising could go to the person(s) that are owed money.

The person who lost the trial would also have to buy the gross items to eat that were agreed upon with the court to get X amount off the total owed.

If they are willing to steal they are probably willing to eat something gross to keep the money.

One word for Mr. Marvin: toothbrush

I remember first meeting him at the Taproom and I almost turned away in horror when he opened his mouth. It seems reasonable to conclude that if a person doesn't care enough to maintain a minimum level of hygiene or personal care, he's less likely to respect the property of others.

Oooch. I'd rather be called a klepto than have my hygiene called into question

I agree with you, AntonLee. If Brinck and Andy had known that Ryan owed Ron over $2000 in back rent, they wouldn't have let him move in with them. Not really understanding why the thr4ead was moved to non-public...

True and I agree, but most landlords get applications and references before renting. I realize this is more casual, but they knew Ron had rented to him. Did they ask him how it went? If so, what did Ron say?

I think a little due diligence might have brought this out earlier. There have been a rush of people moving to the Keene area destitute and looking for a place to stay, some of whom have barely even introduced themselves on the forums, much less gotten to know anyone in person where you can get a feel for them. I was recently encouraging people to be conscious about who they're inviting into their homes. What do you know about this person?

And Ron, oh goodness. This may sound like a strange criticism but maybe you are too nice for your own good. It sounds to me like Ron was a little too patient with more than just Ryan when it comes to rent payments and now look where Little Minnesota is. I don't know if it would have made a difference or not but still. Charity is a luxury you can enjoy when your own needs have been met and your cup runneth over. Maybe if he had publicly complained about some of those people earlier, including Ryan, instead of quietly letting them parasite him to death, those folks would have either gotten their shit together and become productive members of our communities or they would have been exposed and avoided. Ron is a great guy and I just hate to see him walked all over like that. Ron, we want you happy and prosperous. You've got to learn to say "no".

Most of us are against socialism for a reason. It's destructive to individuals and communities. There are good ways and bad ways to go about being charitable. You should avoid being an enabler of bad behavior. I think we could all use a lesson about not exercising blanket trust just because someone seems interested in the liberty movement. I think there are a fair number of people who just want to belong to something and what we're doing is very appealing to such people whether they're fans of liberty and responsibility (they go together) or not, or whether they use the rhetoric but don't apply it in the real world.

We need to raise our expectations. We need to stop getting too hung up on that number counter and start thinking quality over quantity. It seems obvious that what we've accomplished so far is due to a small number of very high caliber people who are here; certainly not because of sheer numbers.

Dale said it, but Ron is a very helpful person that looks out for others on a regular basis. Sometimes when you're a nice person in this movement, your primary goal is to take someone at their face-value and want to help facilitate them into the project, including life in NH in general. Sometimes you get stiffed, which sucks. I give credit to someone for their charitable heart and their angst to enhance the project, but obviously it's the faulty spirit on the other end that is to receive the brunt of all the guilt. Just because someone's cup isn't runneth overflowing (who's is?), doesn't mean they can't be friendly in their givings/offerings. It's people like Ron that have allowed people to move here that may have not payed up yet, but most will in the future. Ryan is in his own league, along with a few others. They're the ones that have to deal with being ostracized. Ron is a champ in my humble opinion.

ny2nh

While it's great to have folks who are generous in allowing people to slide on their rent in hope that they will get paid up in the future, this is probably a good time to reiterate that when people move here, they really should have some sort of plan as to how they will pay their own way once they arrive.

Sometimes I think - and I read here and on other forums - people plan to up and move without much of a plan. There are a handful of pretty cheap porc manors where new movers can live relatively inexpensively - but their not flop houses - you actually need to find some source of income and pay rent. Sure, it's great to spend all your time on activism instead of getting a job, but not to the extent that you can't pay your rent!

It's always nice to see new movers.....hopefully in the future there are less of the Ryan Marvin types.....

Perhaps and perhaps not, but regardless, it will likely be after Little Minnesota has been foreclosed on. I guess we just have to disagree about when it's appropriate to be charitable. But we can agree that Ron is a great guy.
