Am I the only one?

Am I the only one freaking out?  Every day I read the news and see more and more government take overs and power grabs.  I see the economy always getting worse than expected, the unemployment going higher than expected.  I see cap and trade, government health care, massive debt, deficit spending, and huge tax increases.  I find myself installing a wood stove in my house and buying tools to cut my own firewood.  I'm buying canning jars, a water bath canner, a pressure canner, and tools to can food.  I'm working on finding a wood cook stove.   I usually grow a small garden so I can have some tomatoes and green beans, this year I grew a much larger one and should have 150 lbs of potatoes, a few dozen cans of home grown green bean.  I pruned the neglected apple trees on my property so I can can applesauce (and make hard cider!).  I've cleared a little of my 2 acres so I can grow a larger garden next year.  I have a dug well and am working on putting in a hand pump so I can get water more easily.  Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one that see's the possibility of a huge collapse coming.  Am I the only one?

I've considering planning pretty much everything you just described. I even have two acres and am setting it up for a garden! Are you my alternate personality that comes out when I think I'm sleeping? Creepy...

I'm seriously freaking out.  I pretty much stopped spending money on anything (I'm scrounging my fire wood instead of buying it). I'm trying to save as much as possible (not that my paper money will be worth anything).  My back yard is mostly rocks, and I'm working on getting the rocks out and good soil in.  I don't even have to get into conspiracies to realize the end is near.  I can read history about russia, italy, and other places that have done what we are doing to see it's coming.  It's hard to talk to people about it because I'm dismissed as a freak, so I mostly keep my mouth shut.

Buy silver with that money you're saving before it is worthless.

I have to say that if you read what's going on now and search the subject of whatever it is the news article is on without actual dates. . . things come up.

Historical tidbits, reinventing themselves as good old American Democracy.  Oh it could never happen here, we're the U-S-A!

I do worry.  I just try and do the best I can right now to make my position better.  We're making great progress by getting ourselves out of the debtor sector and into the savings sector.

We're looking at jobs in differerent areas of NH.  IMHO, step one of the best things I can do for myself in a crisis would be to be around like minded individuals who also are preparing for the worst.

I've started a garden where I am now, I've learned a lot about gardening and I think I can do even more next year.  Knowledge is something I try to absorb on a daily basis, it keeps you from thinking about the worst and keeps you motivated to push yourself towards things that will help your overall situation.

Saving money, by not spending on things that we both truly really want we can save that towards our next step of being in NH.  That means we had to choose between visiting ailing grandparents on her side and porcfest.  We had to choose between a huge dental bill and staying the night at Liberty forum.  Cutting back phone minutes.  Paying off credit cards.

We're in a much better place, the feelings of hopelessness are ceasing.  We met some liberty people at Burning Porc and it has inspired us to think positive about where we're heading.  I know a lot of people freaking out, and they have no clue what to even do for their step one.  We feel confident that we have steps 1-30 planned out and always being reviewed and changed as our lives and perspectives change.

I believe bad shit is going to happen, we're going down a road that most certainly leads to chaos and dispair.  I think that instead of trying to worry about the huge wave coming we instead brace ourselves to slice under the crest and come up less pounded on the other side.

We've started by taking a portion of our savings and investing it in silver.  My girlfriend is not as knowledgeable and a bit skeptical even of precious metals.  She's slowly convincing herself.  I couldn't ask for anyone better.

I'm 31 and have a four month old son.  My parents were sure that my life would be better than theirs.  I'm fairly sure that my son will not have the things and possibilities that I've had.  I'm scared, and I've never felt that way, but I also feel that if I'm prepared things will go alot better.

Ditto!  I do NOT understand the logic I often hear where people say "The end is coming!" and at the same time they're worried about spending all of their money.  If the end is coming, money will be worthless so there is little point in keeping it.

I have already bought more precious metals of all types (Au, Pt, Pd, Ag) than some people make in a year.

jeremy2141

Where do you recommend buying precious metals?

The deficit this year is only around twice as bad as last year.  Don't worry, Obama will take care of it.  Hope for change!

jeremy2141

Oh, we'll get change alright.

I've bought from APMEX. NWT Mint, and friends -- all with good results.

APMEX tends to have a lot of variety in stock, and lower markup than brick & mortar stores.  The downside is that there's a shipping fee of ~ $12.

NWT doesn't charge for shipping if your order is at least 50 rounds.  Depending on what you buy there, you might have to wait a month (or occasionally more -- even several months) to receive your order.

Buying from friends or other acquaintances can be the best of both worlds: immediate delivery with no shipping costs, and the lowest markup you're likely to find anywhere.

It's a good idea to learn to be more self sufficient.  Lots of different skills will be in high demand in the event of an economic collapse. Making beer, wine or cider are always good things to know how to do. You could trade some for food too or commiserate a bit over beers with friends as the empire crumbles.

Sometimes I worry about what might happen, but mostly I think about how I need to prepare to live on less and then sometimes I actually do it. Like cutting fire wood, I've been THINKING of doing that all summer...eh maybe tomorrow.

jeremy2141

at least global climate change has made it cooler for cutting wood.....
