When I was little, my mom, for a period of time, was getting fresh milk from a nearby farm.  She made butter with the cream most of the time, but sometimes during the summer we'd make ice cream.  We had one of those old hand cranked ice cream makers, where you'd throw ice in it with rock salt and then crank for what seemed like hours.  The ice cream was so good!  We only made vanilla or strawberry, as far as I can remember, but it sure tasted good  :D

Neopolitan, eh?
I've never called it that. I usually say Choco-nilla-berry.

We only did it once or twice, but another way to do it is with a small coffee can with the liquid ice cream in it, placed inside a large coffee can with ice and rock salt in it, then rolled across the floor or table between 2 people for a while, I recall at least 15 minutes.

I like vanilla.  Caramel and a few peanuts go well with it.

It is a toss up between cherry vanilla or Mint chocolate chip.
I love a good vanilla bean or French vanilla.

Keep in mind I do have  eight containers of ice cream, four kinds of sprinkles, three kinds of syrup, 1/2 a gallon of maraschino cherries and a brand new ice cream maker.
We love ice cream around here. :icescream:

I love vanilla!

I know the reputation of vanilla as "bland" or "not a flavor", but vanilla is a flavor, and a complex one at that! (I also know the other, "TMI" definition of "vanilla", and it doesn't apply here.  ;) )

I wish I could find a good, reasonably priced, hand-cranked icecream maker. The kind that you threw a towel across, so any handy 8 year old kid could sit on top to keep it from dancing away while you cranked...

White Mountain still makes them after 100 plus years!

We have a powered icecream maker.  Someone posted it on freecycle because they lost the manual so they just bought a new one.

One quick email to the company and we have the manual, and make icecream frequently.

Mint-chocolate was pretty good.  Dark chocolate icecream with mint oil added, not mint icecream with chocolate chips.

Pina colada was better.  Half cream, half coconut milk.  A splash of coconut rum and some crushed pineapple.

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of using a couple of cheap cans?  :)

Depends what your purpose is.  Cheap, no.  Hand it to the kids and let them roll it around without concern that the lid will just pop off and make a mess?  Yes.

Just had some homemade cinnamon ice cream.  That was much better than I was expecting.  I'm going to get some more soon.

Yep, that was very good too.
