yea ... i can't imagine wandering off the paved roads at rogers campground at night ... while drunk
maybe kate will have to  set up drunk traps that hoist the offenders into the trees for the next day .... that might slow down the intruders

You ARE going to get laid, BTW.

You know, there is a TMI section.  ;)

I just walked out of a Merrimack Valley Porcupines (MVP) meeting in the middle of it, and this thread seemed like the ideal place to vent my frustration.

As most people here probably know by now, Kate's point in starting this thread was to argue that you can communicate your thoughts and values better through a little respect for social norms than you can by being an obnoxious asshole.  The "social norms" she's talking about are not fill-in-the-blank-everything-you-hate-about-authority, they're customs like this:

When you're in a meeting with a large group of people and someone has the floor, raise your hand to be recognized if you want to speak - don't just start talking.  I don't care if you can't stand the idea of "asking permission" to speak, because I know there's a good chance that abandoning this social custom just gives you a shouting match.  When this happens, plenty is said but very little is heard.  If you want to go to your own 30-person meetings where only the loudest get heard, that's fine, but don't expect activists who actually do things instead of talking about them to stick around (much-less take anything you have to say seriously).  We'll hold our own meetings where we choose to follow customs we've found conducive to actual communication.  That's how voluntary interactions with other people work.

What was being talking about when you walked out?

I'll assume that a bunch of people gathered to tell everyone else what to do, then a shouting match occurred.

IF you made your meetings a place where you are actually doing something. that will keep the people that just want to argue amongst themselves away from your meetings.

You can talk about what you are going to do online, that way everyone can say something and be heard... time is not spent with people trying to talk over each other.

BTW: "Meetings" are boring. Parties are much more fun. :)

Alec and I were at the Merrimack Valley Porcupine Meeting today.  Phil Greazzo was the speaker while we were eating lunch.  Alec was referring to the question and answer segment after Phil's presentation.  Phil was calling on people who had raised their hands in the order they had raised their hands.  Then some people couldn't wait their turn and started interrupting people and yelling to talk over people.  Which meant no could be heard due to the two people talking at once.

Maybe after Phil Greazzo gets more cops in West Manchester and does away with open carrying, he can have those cops arrest people that speak out of turn at the Merrimack Vally Porcupine Meetings.

The biggest problems arose when the parties left the events or other parties.  Roger's has the most family friendly sites near the playground.  Most of them have water and electricity.  This makes it a no brainier for most people with children.  It also happens to be along the main drag and has sites behind it.  Lazy and inebriated people felt the need to take short cuts through these sites.  This caused all sorts of problems and inconveniences to those who had rented some of the most expensive sites at Rogers to get the convenience.

If you don't want to move to a more isolated site, maybe put up signs on your site asking for people to not cross through it?

Signs.
I'm not sure how well they would work since people obviously didn't read the campground rules.

Russell's idea seems more effective.  I wonder what would be the best way to design one.

I was thinking about big ass 4-8 word signs on your campsite.  The campground rules were quit long, I'd be surprised if the majority of people read them.

The snow fence was mentioned as an idea.
Concertina wire was also discussed. >:D

You obviously don't know Phil.
