What we really need are more women geeks. We need to make geeky sexy so women will want to be geeky.

It would actually make a lot of sense to recruit for new movers at science-fiction and comics-related conventions.  First, there's a ready clientele of bright misfits looking for a place they feel is home.  Second, there's no shortage of geeky girls.  (Third, I can vouch that they're little tigers, but that's probably telling too much . . .)

That idea seems better the more I think about it. (I realize it may result in turning up the photos of me and Joe Haldeman with the propeller-beanie plungers on our heads, but I'm willing to make that sacrifice . . .).

There are some things most geeks and nice guys do to hurt themselves when it comes to dating.
 
So she turns you down for a date.  Get over it and ask someone else out. 
Most single guys are too afraid of rejection.
What is the worst thing that can happen.  She says no.  Life will go on.
Most of us are nice about.  If she isn't you don't want to date her anyway.*

The guys also don't go to places and do things that have a bunch of women around. 
If you don't meet new women you can't ask them out. 
When they are around single women they don't ask them out. *
Get up the nerve and ask her.  Worst case scenario is she says no. 

When you meet someone and are interested in them find out if they are avalible and then ask them out. Don't wait the good ones don't stay single long.  Oods are you are not the only one interested in her.
If they say yes go on a date.  Once you go on a date then you can figure out if you want to go on a second date.
You need to take the risk and spend time with the  person before you have decided they are worth keeping around.

Most guys wait far to long to ask a girl out.  This is where the you are too nice and you are a friend comes in.
Don't wait till you know her very well.  If you have waited till you are good friends someone else will ask her out or you will completely fall off her dating radar.  If you're interested in her make it very clear from the beginning.  This will save everyone trouble.  If you don't want to be just friends stop being her friend.  If you fall into the friend category odds are you will stay there unless you have something new to offer her.  If you wind up just friends you need to start her single friends on dates.  Better yet get her help in introducing you to them.* 

* Known crazy, high maintenance women should not be asked out no matter how hot you think they are.*

When I was in junior high, we had to take an instrument one semester.  I chose flute, and a bunch of the guys were incredulous.  "But you'll be in a class with a bunch of girls!"
