roger's libertarian flash thread?
is that like his rules of "order"?

i agree with Kate about a lot of stuph of coarse. but i haven't heard guys complaining about finding women, maybe they have just given up
i agree that there is a great divide between those that support or oppose the current system .... just like the litmus test of whether a person hates "the state" or not
the guys that disagree with Kate are probably not looking for someone like her

now that you are at porc central ... are you also at the center of porc geekdom?

I see your point on what you describe as social norms.  I'm referring to more basic social norms and customs such as personal hygiene, personal space, standing in the middle of walkway preventing traffic flow, interrupting people, yelling while having a discussion not a fight, consistent mooching, making a mess at an event and never it cleaning up.  Staying way longer at an event so it prevents the hosts/planners from going to bed.  Blatant disrespect for another persons property or house rules. Continuing to patronize a privately owned establishment while bitching about while you are there.  These types of things are far too common and it gets old.

Maine Shark is right we do not see enough discretion and we don't see enough social pressure when dealing with bad apples in the group.  I wish people were using more common sense and discretion it would be a refreshing change.  It would also make selling our ideals to others easier.

Porc Central has always been full of geeks.  We are currently leaning toward anarchist nerds.

It is more about finding ways to communicate with the people around you than picking up a date.  The social skills used to date are very related to the ones you would use to persuade someone that life is better with less or no government.  Far to many discount social skill as a tool in the pro liberty movement.

You knew you weren't going to get laid but you did read the post.

I think this chapter should be called, 'How to Lay a Porcupine or Very Carefully isn't Good Enough for Kate'.

thinkliberty

People that are good at communicating are better able to persuade someone. You learn something new every day!

I always thought alcohol was the key to getting laid. The more they drink the better you look! I don't know that alcohol can be used to persuade people to liberty, it's legal. But, if you want the good stuff you have to buy it from the state. (In NH anyway)

Well......it looked popular :P

Jim You just made me laugh. ;D  Ask Alec about dating this Porcupine.

Thinkliberty.  You wouldn't believe how many people I have met up here who don't get it.

I have also seen too many people who want liberty without personal responsibility.  They are some of the most hypocritical, annoying, rude, destructive people I have ever met.

It is very simple to be like around here.

Um.... I suggest reading the first post at the top of page one.

Then help good people with their causes and projects.
It would also be a great help to those around you to live by your principles and take full responsibility for all of your actions.
Be nice while doing this and you will have no trouble being popular.

I want to bang my head on a brick wall at all the so called liberty minded people who can't figure it out and wonder why they don't get along with people.    :BangHead:

I don't hang out with annoying, rude or destructive people. Maybe you could find some way sell them a side personal responsibility to go along with the liberty?

Something like "Give a hoot don't pollute", but for porcs...  Maybe we need a "don't be a prick" campaign that is kind of catchy.

Your odds are not good and from the ladies perspective most of the goods are odd.
:laughing4:

Excellent post, porcupine kate.  As one of painfully few single Porcupine females, I second your thoughts wholeheartedly.

porcupine kate

Thank you Friday.

Thinkliberty.  I try to avoid  "toxic" people as much as possible.  Unfortunately they do show up to events that I happen to be at.

I am volunteering to help with Porc Fest and want to incorporate personal responsibility into the theme of the event.  If 2010 is like 2009 I will have to reconsider my involvement with the event.  Way too much reckless behavior for my taste.  I want it to be a welcoming family event not an altered state weekend long binge.

Wow, I was all set for another big fight, but you've been so nice in the follow-up, Kate, that I can see it's not going to happen.  (Things have changed since the 80s and 90s . . . !)

Have you seen the song I wrote on this issue?:

LIBERTY-LOVING LADIES
COPYRIGHT 2009 by Sam A. Robrin or whoever the hell it is who writes these things. Go ahead and use it, but if you make a little money on it, I want some!

Liberty-loving ladies have
   A tough time meeting men.
I often run across a guy
   Who looks a perfect ten.
But though he has the body of
   A Marvel super-hero,
In terms of ideology,
   He'll rate a whopping zero.

While in a bar, I met a guy
   With ample looks and charm.
We sat and roasted liberals,
He took me by the arm.
Inviting me to dinner,
He picked out a cozy place,
But threw a fit when I declined
   To join him saying grace.

I tried to date a college guy--
   A hunky type, but he'd
Absorbed in class a so-called
   "Radical" "progressive" creed.
I spoke my mind, he gasped, he scowled,
   Said, "You believe that?  Wow!
You're evil! You're a monster! You're . . ."
   Well, that's all over now.

[This could go on for quite some number of verses . . .]

I've trolled the bars, the campus, work,
   Stores, classes--and it seems
No place exists where I might find
The free man of my dreams.
No Meetup groups for liberty
(And you can bet I've checked).
Why can't I find a single single
   Man I can respect?

He needs a John Galt sense of pride,
    With Branden's romance, too,
V's hatred for the government,
   And Rothbard's market view,
The playful gift of Scaramouche,
   Defiance of Yossarian--
Goddess Eris, bless me with
   One standard libertarian!

I found the Free State Project
   Searching websites for Ron Paul.
It gave a whole new meaning to the
   Worn term "free-for-all."
The fellows in the photos weren't
   Exactly Grecian Gods.
Nine males to every female, though--
   I really like those odds!

I sold my house, I quit my job,
   I'm ready to set forth
And start a new, like-minded life
With free folks in the North.
I sent a pic to Free Talk Live
   And said I'm coming soon
To offer up a steaming slice
   Of fresh-moved Porcu-poon!
