Having read both 1984 and Atlas Shrugged, I'm utterly amazed at how accurate those books have been in predicting the future -- even if that was not their intent. I would suggest that these books become required reading for anyone going into politics, but I'm not sure most who go into politics can actually read.

I just read this story about Obama's quest for more nuclear weapons. Here's the great 1984 quote:

QuoteNNSA Administrator Thomas D'Agostino defended putting more money into the programs, saying the U.S. needs the best nuclear weapons facilities, scientists, technicians and engineers as it moves toward eventual disarmament.
Now keep in mind, they're totally serious. In order to have less nuclear weapons, we need to spend more money and build more nuclear weapons. It is 1984, and we are living it.

What's wrong with those books? Are you saying you want the world to be different than that? People need to know their place in society. Having to figure out what to do for work and where to live is a huge responsibility. My colleagues and I  know what skills we need and how to allot the jobs so everyone is happy. Our jobs registration database will ensure that we distribute people to the right communities.

Thank you, and your colleagues, for knowing what is best for me. Please tell me where I should work next, as I'm too dumb to know for myself. ;)
