AltOberfest is coming!

What - Altoberfest  –  When - October 15 and 16 – Where - 7 Brian Drive, Londonderry

The whole thing kicks off with a bonfire Friday night, starting at 7. Marshmallows for everyone! Bring your own food for grilling or cooking in the kitchen and a cooler of your favorite beverages - brewers invited to share their latest brew with the milling throng (I'm sure donations for the cost of your supplies will be available). Friday night is movie night – I am Legend, with Will Smith, is on the docket.

This is a family-friendly event – kids are very welcome. Friends are welcome. Bring games to play. Go for a walk in the woods. Camping is available overnight in the large yard – plenty of space available – with a limited amount of indoor crash space.

Breakfast Saturday morning, speakers lined up during the afternoon (with videos produced later by the AltExpo video crew), music performances throughout the day.

The marketplace is open – tabling is invited, either outdoors with a canopy or not, and the two-car garage will also be available for exhibits, sales tables, etc. Bring a table and hawk your thing of choice – your farm, organization, produce, publication, blog, radio show, flea market items, T-shirts, buttons, etc. (just no candidates). The new Shire Co-op will present their plans at noon on Saturday and you can join on the spot and place an order that day.

We're just starting to announce the event and would like to announce speakers by the end of the week, so email talk@AltExpo.org if you want to present to an intimate audience on your favorite thing. Don't wait to be invited to bring your guitar, fiddle, ukulele or whatever  – just bring it along; let's have some fun. RSVP on the Facebook page if you're coming. It'd be great to have everybody in the Alt-World here at this event. (There's no fee for anything, btw).

Hope to see all you Alties there.

We've got a couple of talks scheduled now: survivalism, co-op'ing and commercial privacy, with a few more invites out there to others. This event will have something for everyone. I just hope the weather is bearable for overnight camping Friday night. The AltExpo has 3 tents available for those who don't own one - very large yard - room for probably 20 tents or more.

There will be a gas grill at the AltOberfest for BBQ'ing, but bring your own meats (I think Shannon has an inventory of hot dogs for the kids) and bring a pot luck dish and beverage.

Survivalism talk Friday evening then movie night - watching Will Smith in I Am Legend - how apropos!

jaqeboy

Confirmed that Shannon has plenty of hot dogs for the kids (or adults) for a reasonable price.

Big News, Katherine Albrecht will join us and give a talk on Saturday at 2PM. Also, she'll have an announcement of interest.

I announced AltOberfest on Thinking Liberty earlier this evening and we might get a couple of folks up from NY/NJ.

AltOberfest is on rain or shine! If it's raining tonight, we'll put off the bonfire until Saturday night and move everything else indoors.

jaqeboy

Great to hear, gypsy. Keep the wood dry.

Vendors, groups, flea marketeers can bring things to sell in the marketplace - it'll be inside the cleared-out 2 car garage if it's rainy, otherwise, it can be outdoors. Bring books, CDs, DVD's, or whatever else you want to sell, but be sure to bring a table to display it on, since the "house" may only have 1.

Ah, the first day of AltOberfest was sweet. Shannon says come over as early as 9 for coffee and to set up tables in the marketplace. Hopefully things'll be dry for dis to play outside. The marketplace will be in the cleared-out garage in the event of rain.

There'll be a Shire Co-op presentation at noon and at 2, Katherine Albrecht will have some things to present on internet privacy and then, a special announcement.

The postponed bonfire will be later, and the grill will be available all afternoon and bring your favorite beverages and potluck dish.
