Crime: The number of violent crimes recorded by the FBI in 2003 was 11. The number of murders and homicides was 0. The violent crime rate was 3.5 per 1,000 people.

--Christy Holtz, owner of Vermont Pretzel & Cookie, said after she rolled out a new awning at her caf? about a year ago, she found it slit the next morning. The damage came to $8,000, and her insurance only covered a portion of the replacement charge.

"I felt violated," she said. "I wouldn't have minded if someone was watching that."--

Petty crimes, vandalism, unsupervised kids  brought up in an enviroment that teaches envy and hate of success.

Not to ignore that the folks here in Vermont are just itching for federal grant money.

And the federally funded seat belt check points this last Memorial Day. When my son and I rolled into the first roadblock I'd experienced in Vermont I told the officers "heil Hitler".
They have been also having immigration check points on I-91.
Damn shame... Vermont used to be freer than New Hampshire. Now Big Brother is ascending.

It will be easier to make a stand sooner rather than later...

The new Patriot Act reauthorization includes making a new Federal Police Force,

"There is hereby created and established a permanent police force, to be known as the ?United States Secret Service Uniformed Division?."

This new federal police force is "subject to the supervision of the Secretary of Homeland Security."

The new police are empowered to "make arrests without warrant for any offense against the United States committed in their presence, or for any felony cognizable under the laws of the United States if they have reasonable grounds to believe that the person to be arrested has committed or is committing such felony."

Damn brownshirts are upon us!   Seig Heil!

???

There is already a uniformed division of the USSS.

Instead of creating a new force, this sounds like dramatically expanding its powers to make it an actual national police force.

Such a thing is destined for disaster. Dunno if it's just hastening the inevitable, but I hate to see it come.

"...any offense against the U.S....." wow .... that could mean a lot of stuff.

Kat Kanning

Yeah, you could turn right without signaling and be thrown in jail.

The Title of this thread seems inaccurate now. We are definitely in a police state.

Kat Kanning

How's that?  (I was thinking the same thing this morning.)

Very accurate.
I had a conversation with a 78 year old man today, who talked about the eerie resemblance between the Hitler power grab, and our present situation. He said his wife agrees that 9-11 is our Reichstag fire. As he said, they let it happen to ram through the Patriot Act.

Old people know stuff.  (Except Lloyd, that is  :tongue3: )
