After decades of false starts and speculation and aborted projects, it looks like one has finally come to be. And it looks pretty good - the trailer hits plenty of high points from the book. The actors seem well cast; they're not so well known that anyone will assume anything about the character based on the actor, but they also seem competent. High dollar production, with some CGI for the train scenes.

The youtube comments were funny, saying it was like "Left Behind" for libertarians and capitalists. I guess there's some of that, at least for the degree of pent-up expectation. The big difference is that "Left Behind" was targeted at a narrow segment even within the Christian community, and the first movie was released just five years after the first of the books was published. Plus it was Kirk Cameron with a camcorder, plus Walker Texas Ranger's sidekick.

I just hope "Part 1" doesn't presage the end of a series because of lack of interest or money.

OK, I've finally left my place in the line for the never-gonna-happen Babylon-5 movie to wait in the Atlas Shrugged line instead!   :o

(man, that's some obscure references right there...)

i would think that, unless the movie is horrible,
tons of people would go to a movie  that is based on such a popular book

when was the last time a wildly sold book not done well at the box office

I am making my plans now to watch it. :)
what day of the week is april 15th?

Pat McCotter

April 15 is Friday. Make sure you file your tax forms by then. >:D

I think they'll tone it down from ~40 minutes (if I recall my audio book version correctly) to ~15, and since they're moving the setting to the year 2016 they can do all sorts of things to keep the audience visually stimulated, like have the characters listen in on the more easily-digestible parts of the speech via smart-phones while they run around all actiony and stuff, government CS professors typing frantically trying to crack Galt's uplink encryption, etc...   ::)

I do hope they'll have a major extended DVD out eventually.

And I wonder how much Toyota is paying for product placement...
