Sorry for rambling on Jim. I didn't know you choose "not to play" the goons game. I admire you for that as it's a hard row to hoe. As a young punk I experimented with driving without a license, no tags etc, and went as far as making my own license plates. Once in court I  fought the system and tried to use "the right to travel" etc, etc. I spent umpteen times in jail for all types of "crimes." I played with not speaking at all and taking the 5th and refused to get permits and refused to sign on to "priviedged" state and federal poloicies. I marched for peace during the Vietnam War and was an organizer in peace rallies where back then we anted to block the streets, stop traffic and make havoc. After awhile I tried playing their game and got beat to shit as well.  Just recently I had sucess in the courts and won at ehir game but maybe that was just a lucky day.

I wish you good luck and hope you can videotape it.

So they have apparently locked down the courtroom and aren't letting the "public" into the public trial. These heavy handed idiots can be consistently counted on to do the wrong thing.

FIJA opportunity:  the juror's cars are marked.  They might need a brochure.

Oh I get it! It's one of those "private" public things...you know like the charges Jim faces.

Russell Kanning

that is true
I wonder if Jim can get enough jurors who don't work for the state

Jim Johnson

Jury selection was not at all what I thought it would be.
They started with some legal things they thought needed to be cleaned up... like making sure that I knew that I was supposed to know everything that a six year law school graduate should know about the rules and procedures of the court.  I let them know that that could not happen.  They said I could get a counsel to set beside or behind me to give me pointers.  I said that I could not afford such a person and would not ask anyone to do so with out compensation.  They said, "Just as long as I was aware..."
The prosecutor suggested that the charge could be dropped to a violation and the trial be turned to a bench trial.  I agreed.  The Judge left the room for ten minutes.  But when he came back the Judge did not like the precedent it would set.  Ever thing that comes before the superior court is to be tried in the fashion in which it was brought before the court.
The prosecutor could null pros the misdemeanor and bring a violation charge against me, which the prosecutor may still do.
They could remand the trial back to Burke... I said no to that.
They could continue this trial and make it a bench trial... I said no.
Judge says, "I want the trial on the 14th."

That's when they brought in the contenders for jury selection.
The Judge gave his warm welcoming speech, explaining why everyone was now just a number, names are to cumbersome and there for expensive to deal with.
The Judge went on to say that if anyone answered yes to any of the questions he was about to ask they should let the court know if their number was called.  The Judge went through a long litany of questions some of which where; Have you been charged with a similar crime, criminal trespass?  Have you ever been the victim of a similar crime?  Are you close to anyone in law enforcement?  Do you know the defendant, the prosecutor or any of the witnesses, which he had named earlier?  Have you given advise to anyone about this case? ect...
Then came the fun part where a wooden box on a tumbler was turned over three times and door was unbolted and the latch flew off and the lady that undid the latch tried to get the door open and she was having a hard time, so the lady next to her was also trying to open the door and when they finely got the door open, they reached in and pulled out a piece of paper with a number on it and that my friends was the high-lite of the entire morning.  They called out the number and asked that person stand up.  Do you have anything to say?, says the Judge.  If anyone had something to say the person would be asked to go up to the Judge.  Prosecutor Webb and I would be ask to stand on either side the person.  The Judge would ask the person more questions.  If the Judge found them 'fit' to serve.  The Judge asked Prosecutor Webb and I if there were any more questions, we said no.   That went on until 14 people were selected, 12 jurists and 2 alternates.  8 women, 4 men, one of which is a monk and two male alternates.  Each jurist got a green piece of paper.

Judge says I can go, but Prosecutor Webb says his star witness can't do the 14th.
So it's back to the 17th at 9:00am, which messes up every bodies 4 day St.Patty's Day weekend...      yeah, Friday the 18th is a court furlough day.
Let's hope they can still knock off at noon and party through Sunday.

very funny reporting
Can ridley have permission to quote you and make a story or impersonate your voice?
can the 3 stooges play the part of the court officials?
seems you were as familiar with superior court proceedures as the prosecuter since he tried something .... just not done
did any of the public see this?
is the jury full of normal people?
it is also good to see that the government seem to want to take this down a notch if possible

Like I posted on FreeKeene, it needs to be narrated by Arlo Guthrie...

Bad news Jim I called all around the country and
the shortest school that guarantees your learning
the care and feeding of kangaroos is 2 years long.

Do you think they will give a postponement at this late date?

Thank You.
No, I have a TM on my distinctive, slow and halting stutter.
Some one needs to find out who is handling the Stooges.
I was surprised that there were so many different ways the trial could have gone, it demonstrated the subjective fluidity of the system.
The Public was not allowed to observe at any point.
Is the jury full of normal people?  I have know way of knowing.
It did feel like they could not find a way out, cause they definitely tried.

I doubt that I could get a delay of two years, but the 1 year I'm facing might get me through the first 2 semesters.

There will be three guys with robes on the 17th.

lots of good ideas
these courts sure are strange places

It would be easier if the men in dresses were green and had tentacles.  Then folks would stop expecting them to behave like human beings, and would find it easier to go into things anticipating bizarre behavior.
