I understand the trial of Bernard von NotHaus, founder of the Liberty Dollar organization, is either beginning soon or has already begun.  I don't know many details but wanted to at least draw attention to the fact that something is going on.

If you have some links or updates, post 'em here.  I'll attempt to drive a little traffic to this thread.

They fought to change the venue to Statesville NC?  If the people there are as friendly Heather Lewis says, I think they would be as friendly to the state as the accused.

I was selected for a murder trial here in NC 1.5 years ago.

The state's case rested entirely on being able to put their suspect at the scene. That's it. Three of their witnesses were in jail having being at the scene as well, two of which admitted to shooting blindly while running.

One of the other jurors openly stated that s/he thought the suspect deserved to be convicted for First Degree Murder solely for the fact that there was a dead body at the scene, and "Someone needs to be punished for that."

This juror was also the most overtly religious of all of us.

How much argument it required to get to Not Guilty, does not inspire confidence in the amateur juror system now that I've experienced it from the inside. But then, who can assert that any govt monopoly has ever worked well, or even worked?

There are a whole bunch of people who seem convinced that someone would not be charged with any crime if they weren't guilty of something.

DOJ Press Release
Defendant Convicted of Minting His Own Currency
Off to Gitmo with him!

"Attempts to undermine the legitimate currency of this country are simply a unique form of domestic terrorism," U.S. Attorney Tompkins said in announcing the verdict. "While these forms of anti-government activities do not involve violence, they are every bit as insidious and represent a clear and present danger to the economic stability of this country," she added. "We are determined to meet these threats through infiltration, disruption, and dismantling of organizations which seek to challenge the legitimacy of our democratic form of government."

What we have here, is a U.S. Attorney who cannot possibly believe the bullshit she's spewing. Not that there's anything new about that -- prosecutors and defense attorneys and lawyers in general are required to suspend disbelief just to do their jobs.

But this is a new step above suspension of disbelief. This is a prosecutor who doesn't expect anyone to believe that she says, she's just trying to impress those above her with just how willing she is to spout B.S. to justify persecution of someone who wasn't breaking any laws.

That's a special kind of evil.

By lifting the curtain on it's instability.

 >:( :( :'(

Bernard knew that producing a competing metal-backed currency was dangerous, but I think even he underestimated the arbitrary evil of government.

When does the Fed gets it trial?
