Carmakers' platinum demand to rise 8 pct in 2005

Carmakers are using more platinum because of stricter emissions rules in Europe dealing with diesels. Platinum is used in the catalytic converters.

With the switch to low sulfur diesel fuel in 2006 diesel vehicles in the US will be manufactured with these converters.

Hmmm... platinum futures?
