I only just discovered that video recently myself. I'm so embarrassed it took me so long.

Here's a nice compliment to it.

Before you pledge allegiance again, know the facts: the pledge was invented to sell flags and socially indoctrinate youth, it was written by a Socialist, the original salute was changed by FDR (due to the Nazis) into putting hand on your heart, and God was added by Eisenhower.

How conservatives can think the pledge is some great tradition is beyond me, and it's because they don't know the facts.  Educate them.

I remember the year that God showed up in the declaration. We had it, pretty much, memorized by then and there was much confusion:). They were already subjecting the 25% or so of the school that were Jewish to daily recitations of the lords Prayer.
That's how it was in those days. Easter Pageant!, Thanksgiving Pageant!, Christmas Pageant!, and (maybe) a couple of hours singing: "Dreidel, Dreidel"

You're talking about Americans, both liberal and conservative, who think we were just minding our own business and were attacked out of the blue on 9/11. And then they vow to "Never forget!"

If I had to write my own personal "pledge of allegiance" in the 2 minutes it takes me to type this post, it would go something like this:

I pledge of allegiance to the Truth, and the scientific methods through which it may be known - one objective reality, that exists independently of whims and emotions, through which civilization can attain liberty and justice for all.

(Now my sig.)

One picks one's battles...  ;)

On a scale of 1-10, this issue is about a 2-3 tops... so I focus on the big picture.
