Must be an objectivist ;D

AlanM

QuoteObjectivism states that nothing you do is considered immoral if you are under the threat of force.

Not sure where this idea came from. If it came from Peikoff, I would discount it. I look at what Ayn Rand wrote.
In Atlas Shrugged, John Galt didn't condemn people because they did things under threat of force. He merely attempted to convince people to follow his ideas.

Kat Kanning

He said he's stopped paying now.

Ok folks...my years betray me! 8)  While only my personal opinions do have some first hand knowledge on
this topic.  Woodstock, half a million folks on the ground demonstrating for peace in DC spring of 1970 (I think
it was that year?? ), Republican Convention in Miami in 72, to name a few.  There is lots more, but hopefully you
get my point. :)

First the SDS were a bunch of nuts who wanted the blow up everything and didn't care who got hurt in
the process.  The selfrighteous type, much like to PETA folks we see today, except worse...the Weathermen
Underground was a radical off shoot of the SDS.

They were the folks who showed up at demonstrations trying to get the folks into doing violent shit, they were
the folks who came to concerts, not to have fun a do the music, but to spread their brand of selfrighteous crap,
and violence.

While only my opinion, they were the folks that ruined the peace movement, and the freedom movement of that
time, which is mostly forgotten today.

Also look in at your history, until they started burning and blowing up buildings, there was no Federal Drug and Cosmetic
Act!  Nixon use the violence of these groups to get it through congress in the late 60's.

Kat Kanning

Interesting, Dave.  Thanks for the history.

AlanM

Hey Dave, Woodstock was the summer of '69.

Thanks Kat!....Holey, moley...guess I'm old enough to be part of history!! :P

I believe 'Free Will' is the basic premise of Objectivism.

I thought it was Free Willie...

:P

(I just picked a random point to jump back in, after a week off-line. My telco bought out my ISP, and the transition has been hell! I finally got back on dialup; hopefully we can get our DSL restored tomorrow. The difference between government-sanctioned telco service, and free-market DirecTV, is amazing. Then again, it's not.  >:( )
