I was reading an article in last Friday's local paper. The article mentioned "three invasive plants that will be illegal in 2007 - barberry, burning bush and Norway maples" Anyone know what these things are?

AlanM

GT, Here is a link about Norway Maples: http://www.unh.edu/neeg/normape.html

Fascinating. Never knew that about them.

SO, if somebody's Norway Maple seeds in your yard, and kills your plants they owe you damages for it.

Private property rights solves all of these problems.

These bans are downright stupid.

Norway is attacking us with trees!!!!!!

Does George know about this? Is he sending a fleet to the North Atlantic?

I heard this on the news a couple of months ago. It is ridiculous. They were declared non-native invasive species and the nurseries will no longer be able to sell them. The reporter was suggesting people go buy them up now before the (I think) 1/1 deadline. The thing is that they invaded when the earliest europeans settled here hundred of years ago.

See, even centuries can't make someone from away a native.

I have a barberry bush on my corner that is about 70 years old.  It hasn't spread anywhere.

Barberry is known to cause disease in nearby crops.  I conclude that farmers are the ones pushing for these bans.

Barberry= Ghetto natural barbed wire
