I forgot how much you like your rose colored glasses.

In the Bible, Paul called it "Joy". I try to be joyful always.
Paul, the self proclaimed 13th apostle, who never met Jesus?

I'm not a big fan of Paul.
What type/brand/denomination of Christian are you?
Or is it Paulianity you believe in?

"Paul was the great Coryphaeus, and first corrupter of the doctrines of Jesus." --Thomas Jefferson
From a letter to W. Short published in The Great Thoughts by George Sildes (Ballantine Books, New York, 1985, p.208).

Russell Kanning

I agree with many things that Jefferson said about Christianity .... including his shunning of organized versions. But I disagree with him and Tolstoy that Paul corrupted what Jesus preached.
I don't know what type I am.
Christ also mentioned that the humble of heart will be comforted. The message of joy is written throughout the Bible.

But this is about what Lauren is up to. She shows an enthusiasm for life that is missing from too many others. Come join us....it is more fun than trolling. 8)

You can spin thing however you want, and call it "joy" if you want to.
Just don't call it the truth, or reality.

Alford Doctrine:  A plea in a criminal case in which the defendant does not admit guilt, but agrees that the state has enough evidence against him or her to get a conviction. Allows the defendant to enter into a plea bargain with the state. If the judge accepts the Alford Plea, a guilty finding is made on the record.

Nolo Contendre: It means "no contest". A plea in a criminal case that allows the defendant to be convicted without admitting guilt for the crime charged. Although a finding of guilty is entered on the criminal court record; the defendant can deny the charges in a civil action based on the same acts.

Kat Kanning

The way I "spin" it, she gained national media coverage, of sorts, to highlight the homeowners' plight again.  The city is now considering dumping the NLDC altogether, because of all the bad press.  The NLDC is hiring someone to fix their public image, it's so bad.  This is, of course, not entirely due to Lauren's civil disobedience, but it helped up the anti, get it back in the news, helped show the government as an agent that can only use force.  There were what, 5 or six articles in the paper that wouldn't have been there if Lauren had just gone home that night, in addition to a couple of TV news stories.  Plus, she did what was just plain right.  Those people should have been allowed into that meeting.

You do understand that the Bible is a product of organized religion, right?

Sorry, I can't join the forces of EVIL that would try to prevent a child from being reunited with his only surviving parent because they don't like the location where the parent lives. Anyway, it's not about fun.

Please don't use the word 'sacrifice' to describe my actions, I did it all for myself.? I did it to make a better city for me to live in.?

I understand that objectivists... ummm... "object" to have anything they do described as a sacrifice, even if it seems to be a voluntary self-sacrifice.  Rand constantly railed on sacrifice, as though even voluntary self-sacrifice is somehow evil.

Anyways, I repeatedly said that I could not represent your thoughts or intentions.  I described that it seems to me that you're making a voluntary self-sacrifice for our freedom because your husband said you were studying our acts of nonviolent noncooperation.  I said this at the risk of being wrong.  Was I wrong?

Many thanks and hugs to all the protesters that traveled to CT.? I'll endeavor to return the favor.? Thanks to all the well-wishers and critics of my actions, I've enjoyed all of your comments here.? I love this forum.

Welcome back, Lauren.  :)

Hi there, Lauren.

I posted a link to an article about you on another site, and every single reply on the thread was against Eminent Domain too.  :)

What can I say but, "Thank you much!"

You made news too:

Yeah, but just 300 years of organization could not snuff out all the joy!

You are observant to identify my randian love of selfishness.? We can't bring ourselves to call it sacrifice, though the actions be identical.

Being silent is a good way to learn about people.? Everyone reads their own hopes and fears into your actions. Now I know my enemies and friends deepest beliefs.? I was using silence to get on people's good side.? I knew I shouldn't say anything even slighly odd or people would discard my actions.? Shouldn't have let that Elian Gonzales issue slip.?

Actions are more important than intentions. I'll be happy to fight eminent domain tyrany allied with any Ghandi devotee, theist, green party member, animal, mineral or vegetable right down to single-celled creatures.? We can argue about the other things after we reclaim property rights.

Whoa, was that a bit condescending?? Let me add that I have great respect for people with differing ideals, animals, minerals, and vegetables.

I view things with Randian glasses, also. What I find amazing is that people can't seem to grasp the simple idea that the desire for a better world, neighborhood, or whatever, is a very selfish idea.

Ian, thanks for the heads up and links to Lauren's interview.

Big applause for Lauren - great job!

Of course it is, and that is good. The virtue of selfishness and the oxymoron of altruism are the basis of objectivism. We must always act in our own self-interest, or go crazy. Even charitiable, which can appear altruistic, is in the giver's self-interest: it creates an environment of assistance should disaster befall.
