While others are being threatened with arrest Lauren is still being detained, after what is it now? 28 days
if she isn't speaking to officials then she isn't signing a form saying she will show up for hearing. that is probably why they are holding her. i would think they know who she is. perhaps joehaas or other member is familiar with why they could keep her so long, has there been an arrainment or hearing for her.
I'm in NC, so only there in spirit.

Yeah really this is totally messed up, can a person be held indefinitely for driving without a license?

hi i'm new here... my understanding is that CRIMINAL complaint must be filed within 72 hours of arrest(last time in jail must end on a court day) or the person is released..)basically from a US supreme court ruling..

There is no obligation to do anything when you are arrested. you can not eat/not talk/not ....

p.s. i am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice... lauren will be out of jail about 30-60 days depending on why license "was" suspended and how many times suspended...

I would like to suggest that this thread be stickied and the Ed Brown thread be un-stickied.  While much can be done for Lauren, about all that can be done for Ed or Elaine is to send them things in jail.   :(

I will 2nd that motion.

things to do to get info on LAUREN (held on Traffic Crimes)

everybody held in Jail has to have some paperwork at the jail:
the jail *should* release the following information to a caller:
((jails usually have 24x7x365 phone hours))

caller supplies info:  arrested person NAME(lauren canario), approximate age (date of birth if known), approximate date arrested.

get info:
-name as booked
-charges being held on (jail should be able to tell caller STATUTE numbers and common (slang description DUI...)
-CASE Number being held under
-Court Name where case is filed.
-Next court date/time/Courtroom#/Department# and reason for hearing
-(maybe) last court date and what happened in court
-AMOUNT OF Bail to get person out NOW.
-arresting agency name
-(maybe) complaining Officer Name/Badge#

//////
as to "HOUSING" (where the person sleeps), they go through 'classification' (any enemies in jail, hiv positive, hate homosexuals, ...) and usually must be "housed" in a normal jail place (not booking/not intake) within 8 hours. THE jail staff CAN HANDLE all situations.

////

EVERY prisoner usually is offered a RULE BOOK of rules in the jail... It is worth reading...

I think you'll find that Lauren is the exception to many of the above rules. I would not be surprised to learn, for instance, that she still hadn't been arraigned, or even booked.

Quote: There was speculation that she is facing a contempt charge on top of the original traffic offenses.  I was told that her status will change when she decides to participate in the process, otherwise she can stay there indefinitely.  I was further told that she is not having visitors.

If she will accept help from an attorney, would this help her to get things moving, she shouldn't be held
indefinately. this sounds fishy to me. they should either charge her or release her,Right???

Foxy Brown Won't Get on Bus for Court
Friday, October 12, 2007 10:10:35 PM

Foxy Brown, who is serving a one-year jail term, twice refused to get on a correction department bus Friday for a court appearance, the prosecutor's office said. The 28-year-old rapper was arrested in August and accused of striking Arlene Raymond, 25, after the pair got into a fight July 30 over Brown blasting her car stereo near her home in the New York City borough of Brooklyn.

On Friday, Brown refused to be taken from Rikers Island prison to be arraigned in Brooklyn Supreme Court.

She is now scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, the prosecutor's office said. If Brown refuses, the court could issue an order allowing correction officers to put her in handcuffs and force her onto the bus.

Brown, whose real name is Inga Marchand, is serving a year in jail for violating probation -- skipping her court-ordered anger management classes and traveling out of the city without permission. The probation stemmed from her fight with manicurists in a New York City nail salon three years ago.

Her new album, "Brooklyn's Don Diva," is set for release Nov. 20.

Thanks for clarifying the procedure, it helps explain what might be going on.

It's 10 days. When Lauren was arrested on 9/15, she was released the same day. She's in jail at the moment after being arrested 10/2.

Lets see if Inga gets an invite to the next outlaw manicurist demonstration.  ;)

She is not going to accept help from an attorney because she doesn't recognize the authority of the courts.
