WINCHESTER — A proposed Dollar General store in Winchester is dead in the water after it failed to get a key variance.
The town zoning board voted unanimously at its Thursday night meeting to deny the Zaremba Group LLC's application to waive a maximum size requirement for the store. Board members said the proposal's size was incompatible with the rest of the district.

The fight to remain a disheveled Depression Era hovel goes on unabated.

Nice comment on the article Jim.

A fire or flood would be the best thing to happen to downtown Winchester... if those old leaning buildings fell backwards into the river it would be a vast improvement.

Kulick's gets to use the town government to keep out competition.

That's the second medium size business they have turned down in a month.

Well down town is so rustic,
if they let them build some thing new
the next thing you know, there might
be paint with colors like yellow being used.

You people just want total chaos!

Russell Kanning

so they said dollar general was too small?

Incredible. They'd rather have empty, broken down buildings than businesses.  ::)

Russell Kanning

ah so people will continue to go to hinsdale and keene while winchester just rots

They just opened a store in Hillsboro...not too big at all.  Small footprint store...seems fairly harmless.

The people who own the Kulick's shopping center think it's extremely dangerous, to their bottom line.  They are also the people who don't want a Dunkin' Donuts/gas station in Winchester.
Which reminds me that a wood powered power planet was defeated in Winchester last year, as well as a new waste transfer station.
