Secession

I have been thinking about a few issues related to secession and living apart from the governments thats consider themselves in authority over me.
It is sortof related to the tuath idea. Sortof related to having the freedom to travel (including drivers licenses and vehicle registration) . And sortof related to property taxes and such. Sortof related to the Killington transfer also. Who says you have to have all of a countries territory connected geographically? Who says that your "country" has to have fences around it's borders?

I was thinking that we could declare our home separate from these entities that our trying to control us. But first I need to think of a name for this new country of sorts. This is one issue to discuss/ridicule/joke about. :)

Secondly we could make a country that others could join also .... similar to the tuath .... just with a little different focus. So we could figure out how that might be interesting or not. :)

We could have open trade and many connections with the surrounding area. We even fill up in their gas stations and help pay for the roads we drive on. We import all sorts of things from them and export our services. We use some of their systems (like water and power) and so we pay for them. But we would not be participating in other programs (war, welfare, ss, schools) that our neighbors do .... so we would not pay for them.

Any ideas for names or other general thoughts?

Hey ... that has something going for it.

But for now the borders are open.

Russell, I think it's a very interesting idea.  And it would give you an excuse to burn something new: your passport.  ;D

Reason magazine had an interesting article recently about the French Acadians, who had a thriving and peaceful culture based on free trade and friendly relations with Native Americans in eastern Canada and northeastern U.S. way back in the 1600's, until the British decided they wanted the land and systematically destroyed them.  You can read the article online: http://www.reason.com/0511/cr.as.exile.shtml

I would suggest setting up a for profit private cooperation ( a state is just a corporation) that will run in parallel to the state with the hopes of replacing it some day - the model is VISA Int'l set-up by Dee Hock as the first "chaordic" organization.

the initial form of capital would fit nicely with the truath idea as it is "social capital" based on the books by the NH author Robert Putnam called "Bowling Alone" and "Better Together"

first thing you want to do is map the social connections of information flow that trade in reciprocity (mutual aid) with the help of a software package like:

http://www.orgnet.com/

this is what the Second Vermont Republic is planning on doing.

Couldn't you just use graphviz to generate a chart like that? Looks like all it's showing is a graphical diagram of inter relationships between people.

Or am I missing something?

See .... you have an advantage ...... you already have a name picked out.
Why not split NE and the US into lots of little pieces? Some would be big and have real borders and governments set up again by the people .... but others could be set up without set borders or any written rules. :) People could be part of tuaths or other such arrangements or multiple tuaths.

I don't really like any of those ideas...... the second one is really funny too......it gets funnier every time I read it. But you go ahead with it.

hmmm some of these are good and could be used by me or others.

....after you buy your place in NH ..... you could have your own country of sorts ..... and broadcast freedom to the enslaved surrounding states ..... Radio Free NH ......lets see   FTLand

There already is a Jefferson, NH .... but not a country called Jefferson .... is there? What was that thing called in NCal/SOre?
There is a freedom, NH but not a Liberty, NH yet. :)
