Thinking of phones mine has had tons of static on it for months now and I don't know why.   I have 2 corded phones and both of them have it, I don't even like talking on the phone anymore.  It can't be that both cords have gone bad at the same time, can it?

You have a bad connection, somewhere in the phone wiring.  You'll need to call the phone company to have it corrected.
