I saw Sam at Walbaum's just yesterday, he was buying bacon and beer.

I always looked forward to the scene at the end of that old TV show, The Fugitive, where Lieutenant Girard is hot on the tail of Dr. Kimble, and he says to someone, "Which way did he go?", and they look at Girard, then they might look at another person who Kimble had an ambivalent relationship with, and then they look back at Girard and lie and say, "He went that way" but then they point the wrong way.  Or Girard shows them a photograph of Kimble and asks, "Is that the man?", and they stretch it out for suspense before lying and saying , "No.  That isn't him."

Besides, I saw Sam in Bowie County today. No way he made it here from there in that amount of time.

I read a book about Jim Bowie and saw a David Bowie concert in Houston.  So, maybe Sam is in Houston....SAM Houston, that is.
