MANCHESTER — A man described as distraught over the recent death of his brother shot and killed his own young son and then himself at the Manchester YWCA Sunday morning.
According to a statement from the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office, Muni Savyon, 54, of Manchester, shot and killed his son, Joshua Savyon, 9, of Amherst, before turning the gun on himself.
The shootings happened about 10 a.m.
A press release issued by Attorney General Joseph A. Foster said that Muni Savyon arrived at the YWCA for a 9:30 a.m. supervised one-hour visit with his son. Partway through the visit, Savyon allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot his son several times, killing him, then allegedly turned the gun on himself.
According to the release, the male counselor escaped unharmed.
Police Lt. Maureen Tessier said Manchester police officers responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired in the vicinity of the building on Concord Street, near downtown. Once inside the building, officers discovered the two bodies.
A local clergyman who knew Muni Savyon said he had been distraught ever since the death of his brother from a sudden heart attack.
Married and divorced twice, Savyon had visitation rights with his son, the clergyman said.
According to its website, the YWCA runs a Supervised Visitation and Child Exchange Center that enables parents "to comply with court ordered visitation without violating protective orders or bail conditions."
The upper floors of the YMCA are residential; apartment manager Bob Marsh said there were about 20 residents in the building Sunday morning.
The police SWAT team was called to search the building to make sure there was no gunman inside.
After about 90 minutes, SWAT team members carrying semiautomatic rifles and wearing military fatigues left the scene. Residents were allowed back inside the building about 2 p.m. Marsh escorted them, indicating the first priority would be making sure they felt secure.
A resident who spoke with the New Hampshire Union Leader said they were startled by a sudden commotion in the building about 10 a.m. One longtime resident of the YWCA said a police officer came to the apartments and escorted everyone outside. While the room search inside the building was underway, police kept the neighborhood cordoned off.

I never met Muni. To the best of my recollection, we never even encountered one another online. I only know of him by name, because his name came up regularly as an active MVP member.

A lot of friends of mine were also friends of Muni's, and they're hurting right now. Some have even lashed out inappropriately; one immediately called this a false flag operation, then admitted he had no evidence, but he just couldn't believe it.

I won't even begin to guess what could motivate such actions.

My heart goes out to all who have suffered loss here.

I have said for many years that if one wants to end it for themselves, then by all means, that it is their right - but that it is not their right to take others with them. ...  :(

So very sad.

Wow
On the lighter side at least the swat team could run around saying huthuthut.
