Perhaps the only thing the sheep can do is refuse to participte in a rigged election?
If there are free elections in this country, then why was the Libertarian Party excluded from the NH ballot?

When is Weare Town meeting?  Won't the deadline already be passed to submit timely petition signatures?  If they are extra past the deadline,  are you deceiving voters?  People in NH do not like outside manipulation of warrant process.  Only town registered voters are allowed to speak at Town meetings, unless the floor authorizes the outsider to speak.  Getting people to turn out for town meeting all over NH would be a better idea.  Logan Clements is a bad publicity hound.  I speak as Weare property owner when I say that Weare voters may be smarter than Logan Clements and anyone who supports Logan Clements.  Bad move and a waste of valuable time.

I am not a Weare voter and even I would need to have permission to speak at their town meeting.

I believe it's necessary to vote.  Not everyone on this site is an anarchist.  I'd start a poll to tally the numbers... but I guess the non-voters wouldn't vote in it.

What do you think CB Craig on this one?  Is a convicted felon alllowed to have a paint brush and paint and is he allowed to pass his "work product" outside the prison walls?  Isn't the prison justified in keeping the proceeds from any sale and paying him some .10 an hour wage?

This has drifted a bit from the Stolen Liberty hotel... 

I'll give you a bit of an overview of the federal system (Traficant is a federal inmate). All inmates are required to have jobs if they are medically able. Their pay can range from $5 per month, up to a couple of bucks per hour (the high end is for those working in UNICOR factories, making goods for government use).

Half of everything they earn must be paid towards any fines or restitution they owe as part of their sentence. We don't just take the money; the inmates have to make a monthly payment. We put the responsibility on them, and if they blow their money at the commissary instead of repaying their victims, they are placed under sanctions until they begin making their payments again.

Down in the trenches, there has been a lot of talk of doing just what you propose: letting those who produce hobbycraft items sell them in a way that helps pay the cost of incarceration. Up in the ivory towers, such ideas are never taken seriously.

The law is part of the problem. Nothing produced in prison can be sold to the public; it can only be sold to other government agencies. Personally, I believe that anything they make using their own resources, they should be able to sell. Writers can certainly ply their craft while in prison; why can't artists or leatherworkers?

We jokingly refer to our leather hobbycraft recreation program as the "purse factory". We've got guys churning out good work, of the Dooney & Burke style (or whatever the current trend happens to be). They purchase all their own materials from outside sources, do their own work, then mail the project home (it can only be sent to someone on their visiting list).

We know full well that the purses are being sold. They're imitating purses that sell for $200-500 on the street, sending them home, and their wives sell them for $50-200. Their wives then send money to buy more materials, plus part of the profit that can be spent in the commissary or on phone calls. Some guys are cranking out 3-4 purses a month. They only have a couple of hours' access to the hobbycraft room each day, so they could do a lot more if they were working full time. There's virtually no cost to the government in the hobby program, but neither are any of the costs of incarceration being offset, nor is victim restitution being paid from the proceeds.

So the short answer is: yes, I believe Traficant should be able to sell his paintings, so long as a big portion goes to paying the cost of incarceration and payment of restitution and fines.

one of my brothers is the 'architect' of that,,uh,... 'billboard'.
i've  read some of you think he's misguided,, that's ok.   we got together to draw and paint
one of his work trucks to catch the eyes of the apathetic.        it's worked.   
when we heard that someone [ clemens ] wanted to bring attention to the ISSUE by filing to take Souter's place,,
my two brothers and i drew up this 'design/logo'  to get people interested and talking..........we did this several months
ago,-[   by ourselves,, no input or contact from clemens or others,,]  and still,, every single day he encounters people who ask him 'what's that all about?'  ---not so much about the hotel   itself,, but about the stealing of your  or  my property.
   isn't that  you're suppose to do to--?          i understand both sides,,, there IS  an element of hypocrisity,, but  how do
you fight this blantant move towards socialism if you have an uniformed populos?   cfp

i teased him about 'renting' it out,,,,, we could paint it again to reflect another
important issue.             he liked the idea
