Op. Live Free or Die city pronuncation guide

Video on how to say the names of key New Hampshire cities.  Plz send it to any OLFOD folks you know.
Many of the pronunciations are counter-intutive.   If you say them wrong, that will mark you as an ignorant outsider.

You'll have to go to the halfway point in the video to get to the pronunciation guide.

Something else I learnt: If you have a local phone number, don't say the area code. New Hampshire has only one, 603, and everyone's used to hearing seven-digit phone numbers around here still.

Excellent! As a southerner, I already knew how to properly pronounce Concord ("conquered"), and Nashua seemed obvious. I learned Berlin ("BRRRRRRR!-lin") about 4 years ago. My natural inclination is to pronounce Lebanon somewhat close to the native version ("leb'nun", instead of "leb'-uh-nin").

I'd like to request a few names, though. Ashuelot. Contoocook. Chicester. Sunapee. Haverhill. Ammonoosuc. Kancamagus. Saco. Oh, and remind folks that it's "CO-aws" county up north.

I understand unusual pronunciations. I grew up in the Ouachita mountains, which Dan Rather once called "Ooh-uh-cheetah" after a plane crash (it's "washita"). In Arkansas, Lafayette County is "luh-FAY-et", and Eldorado is "el-duh-RAY-duh". Dierks is "derricks", Yocana is "yokkiny", and Talihina (just across the Okie border) is "tal-uh-HAY-nee". Mary's inner Ioweenian insists on pronouncing all the syllables of Louisiana, even though she grew up there and knows it's "loo-zee-anna". But her Louisiana half knows that Jordan is "jurden" and Taliefero is "tolliver".

It wasn't all that long ago that we didn't have to dial an exchange, if the call was in-town.  4-digit phone numbers were fun!

Contoocook: Con-too-cook (the "too" does end up slightly short, but not as far as "tuh")
Chicester: Chai-chester
Sunapee: Sun-uh-pee
Haverhill: Haver-ill (just a silent "h")
Kancamagus: Kank-a-magus (I've heard it with both long and short a's in that last section - just don't make it "mangus" and you'll be fine)
Saco: Sock-o

Someone else can tackle the others.

Frighteningly enough, I actually knew that.  The odd pronounciation was featured in Heinlein's "The Cat Who Walks Through Walls."

Video:  Ron Paul in Manchester NH 12/1

http://youtube.com/watch?v=QNwEabKvDlo

Ron Paul greets roughly 100 hardcore supporters after their 12/1 canvassing efforts in southern NH.   Includes interview with Operation Live Free or Die firestarter Vijay Boyapati.  Note:   I ask him why I haven't seen any Operation Live Free or Die folks in the last few days....stay tuned and in the next video you'll see some of the sacrifices these incoming troopers are enduring to get the message out.

Jeesh, believe it or not, I would actually like to meet him sometime.  I missed him at the 05 porcfest, and ever since then.  He seems like a nice guy.

NH: Jailed in Defense of the Constitution

http://youtube.com/watch?v=xUtYGrGbcyM

Would welcome Bearpitter feedback on this video-illustrated version of my civil disobedience story.   I was jailed earlier this year for handing respectful leaflets to IRS workers, then refusing to pay the Federal "distribution of handbills" fine...a penalty which violates Amendments One and Ten.   But I was not alone even then!

Now, Ron Paul has advocated civil disobedience...and he has millions of supporters.   I wonder if some of them will step forward with civil disobedience of their own?
