On April 5 , 2014 my husband, our friend, and I were going up to white river junction Vermont from Grafton nh around 9pm. It was my husband's birthday. We got a gallon jug of water and I wanted some while I was driving. So I pulled over in a public parking lot (business was closed at that time) so that we could pour some into a cup for myself. Well right when we pulled over a cop drove by us and turned around. He pulled into the parking lot and parked his cruiser quite a ways away. He walks up to the car and asks us what we are doing. I inform him we are looking for directions to get to white river. He then asks for our names, my identification and registration. FOR THE RECORD I KNOW I MESSED THIS WHOLE THING UP AND I SHOULD HAVE SAID ANTHING... but I did open my mouth so now I'm trying to figure out how to help myself.

He comes back to the car and tells me to step out of the vehicle and says it smells like pot. So I get out and he asks me if there is any marijuana in the car and I panicked and stupidly said yes and explained my husband had it. I was afraid of him searching the car and finding it and then being in trouble for not cooperating.
Anyways we didn't get arrested. None of us did. But he wrote us a ticket saying it was a violation. My husband got one for possession and I got one for transportation. We had less than 5 grams on us.

Well we went to court and its a class B misdomenor! They lied of course. my husband pled guilty and paid his fine. He's done. I pled not guilty and have a trial on August 11th. It's a class b for me as well and they said i have to lose my license for 90 days. What can I say to get it at least lowered!? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Btw I can't have a court appointed lawyer since its not a class a or a felony... and I definitely don't have the money for one.
