The coalition of 4 centre-right parties just defeated the socialists in the swedish election ;D ;D ;D

5.8% voted for "other parties". 4% is needed to get into the parliament, so it is possible, although highly unlikely, that the pirate party, the libertarian party, or any other new party, got voted in. It is much more likely each new party got around 1% or so, and thus none of them reached the 4% bar.

They don't finish counting the "other votes" until wednesday, but you can follow the counting in real-time at http://www.val.se/val/val2006/slutlig/R/rike/ovriga.html

So far the libertarian party is at 39 votes, and the Pirate Party at 4262...

The fun thing is that 39 votes is enough to make the libertarian party the 23rd biggest party in Sweden, or the 15th biggest party outside of government, which in a multi-party system like Swedens sounds kind of impressive. If we can make the top 20 I'll feel good about myself. We weren't really counting on getting any votes.

Isn't the pirate party fairly libertarian?

I can't really read any of these party names but I managed to ID the libertarian party by Googling the one with 41 votes  ;D

Pirate Party are a mix of left and right. They're a phenomonen known in multi-party countries as "one issue parties", political parties that only have an opinion in one or two issues. I don't think a one-issue party has ever gotten into parliament. The Pirate Party is against copywrights, against government surveillance, and that's about it.

The swedish libertarian party is called Klassiskt Liberala Partiet (The Classic Liberalism Party), Classic Liberalism being a small-government ideology that holds there should be a small-government whose purpose it is to protect peoples property rights, and opposes anarchy.

The centre-right alliance wants to allow privately owned hospitals and schools, lower taxes, abolish the government gambling monopoly, abolish the government pharmacy monopoly (currently anything the government has defined as medicine can only be sold in government pharmacy stores, including prescription free things), make it easier to fire and hire people, get rid of some of the regulations for businesses and some other things. Although they're far from libertarian, they're definately a step in the right direction and want to do a bunch of pro-freedom things that would never happen under the former left-wing government.

Sounds like you have a few years of being pleased with the swedish system ahead!

First good news from the new government - The proposed tax on airplane tickets has been thrown out :)

They're pro net neutralitay though which is anti-property rights and anti-freedom of association.

The Pirate Party.

Classic Liberal Party is pro-property rights, all the time. We want what's called a Night Watchman State

I like the pirate party. :)
You probably will still like it better in NH than under a less socialistic Sweden. We even talk about seceding from the state here. :)

As I said before if NH ever becomes autonomous I will start up a free county project. Things get shaken up... keep shaking.

It's nice but our government is still more socialistic than socialists are in other countrys.
