I am looking into Content Management Systems (open source ones of course). What can anyone recommend?

I set up three such sites this week alone...........whew!  At least the towns are now getting wise and forming these groups.
I am trying to convince the taxpayers group in my town to get a website and a forum.
Many are older but there are over 135 addresses on the list ( not a listserv!)

I once asked the founders about CNHT... I was told that CNHT is 'radical'.  HA.. I said well then maybe you don't want me helping. >:D

Radical? Hmmm, if they said this then they are a 'phony' taxpayer group. Sometimes these shill groups pop up to confuse people into thinking they are helping to cut taxes when they are just promoting spending. I am trying to remember which town this is.

I would agree with Jane .... and I am new here.

Sometimes what was once a 'good' group gets compromised and turns into a bad one. Notice we don't list Bedford's 'supposed' taxpayer group on our site?
They somehow got infiltrated and went along with the spenders...so they are no longer considered to be of any worth by CNHT and we refuse to list them on our site.

I should add a disclaimer that says as much....as soon as my head is feeling better.

No they are legit.
It is Hopkinton.

Any idea if I can use FrontPage to oublish to a linux based server? I've been playing with Community Server to setup a web forum and don't really like it SMF seems much better.

Is SMF hard to setup? Anyone use it with Godaddy?

Russell Kanning

I think so.
Not really.
Not yet, but soon.

I switched to a Linux server and just finished installing SMF. It was pretty simple to do. Now I'm wading through all the configuration options.

Yes, with FP extensions. GoDaddy offers this option on their linux accounts. So does hostingbegin.

Right now I'm trying to figure out how to manage subdomains on GoDaddy. We used their "QuickBlog" feature to set up Mary's blog, and the setup instructions call for a subdomain. The blog works just fine at so.verycontrary.com, but I can't manage to FTP to that subdomain to edit the CSS template. (None of their templates have a blogroll,  and no way to add links in the sidebar.)

I went to the hosting control panel, and there were no subdomains listed. So, I created so.verycontrary.com, but still can't access it (it just times out). The control panel still shows "pending setup". Dunno if they have to key it in, or what. If it's not working in the morning, I'll call support.

If their blogging program is similar to their web forum program I doubt you can change much of anything. I originally setup my web forum using Community Server that is a free add-on to Goddady. It intalled in about 24 hours the first time. The installation called for a sub-directory, but the directory is located somewhere else on their servers. After spending sometime on the CommunityServer chat forum I found out that you can only change very basic stuff. This and the fact that I did not have access to the data base caused me to switch to SMF. Although Godaddy offers a free SMF I went and downloaded the full version (still free) and installed it on my site at Godaddy.

I expect most of Godaddy's addons are fairly restricted in what can be cutomized.
