QuoteNo, the problem of the corporations and state being in bed, is the state. Take the state out of the equation --eliminate the "bed"-- and corporations compete against each other.

no more state - no more corporations.

QuoteThe answer to corporate/state collusion is to put government on a leash, not capitalists.

no more state - no more capitalist.

in a truly free market without the state granting privilege and no longer pretending tht our legal framewok is nuetral plus full cost pricing the local sole proprietor and cooperative ventures (mutualism) producing sustainable will win out on price & quality every time.

why else is the parking lot full at every walmart all over the world?

Because the Walmart shoppers are dumbed down, mind-controlled sheep who are no longer capable of acting in their own self-interest. Go to any Walmart and study the people in the checkout lines. It's not a pretty sight.

Must of those shoppers at Wal-Mart are simple minded anyways and do not care about the quality of the products they buy there. Or the fact there killing the American dream of the small business owners.

Are those the small business owners that drove the poor General Store owners out of business?

I don't like Walmart. So I don't shop there.  When I don't like a business I just don't support it.

I can't stand Nike ( not because of the child labor issues but because of Spike Lee) so I don't wear/buy Nike.

If Walmart closes I won't be too sad.   Some other business will rush into fill the void.

You wouldn't be sad, but, 1.7 million employees hitting the unemployment lines and probably as many more whose jobs depend on supplying WM, would have a mojor economic impact across the country.

If you read what I said. I said it has to do with the quailty of there stuff and they don't care about anyone but them selfs.

And in fact that people could careless about quality and rather have junk compared to a Mom & Pop store. Well I think you can do the rest of the math on this. ::)

First of all, I wouldn't go insulting the intelligence of others when you keep using "there" in place of both "they're" and "their."

Secondly, the quality of Wal-Mart stuff is not that bad. Does Wal-Mart have some crap no one should buy? Yes, but so do all stores, including mom and pop shops. The stoneware dishes and the flatware I bought from Wal-Mart four years ago are holding up quite nicely. The pots and pans I bought from K-Mart around the same time are also doing their job. The night stand I bought from Wal-Mart ten years ago to take to college is still with me. Did I buy this stuff where I did because I didn't care about quality, because I'm simple minded, or because I hate small business? You see, I've been on my own financially since college. My family had a bit of a crisis nine years ago, and I found myself out there without any safety net. There was no one in my life that could bail me out should I get into trouble. At that point in my life, Wal-Mart was very important to me as I could stretch my money as much as possible. It served a purpose. Right now, I'm in a nice paying job, so I can afford to shop at better stores. But, when I give up this job in a few years to move to NH and start over, don't be surprised if you see me in a Wal-Mart from time to time. You can call me simple minded if you wish, that's your choice.

Now, I do have a problem with Wal-Mart using eminent domain. I have problems with Wal-Mart going to the government about anything. I don't like corporations, but I put 95% of the blame squarely on the government. You take away government involvement, and you take away the power of corporations to abuse the system.

But shouldn't people have the option of buying inferior products?

I like the people I see in the aisles next to me at walmart .... they seem like smart cookies to me. :)

Did you know that sam walton once had a mom and pop store? He gave Ben Franklin the chance to start it all, but had to do it himself. And then you know what happened? Millions and then billions of people liked his store. :)

Try and read the documentrys on Wal-Mart from PBS.org look at there videos and you'll see what Wal-Mart has done to the great country of ours. The government is at fault and the Republican party as well for taking donations and letting Wal-Mart being powerful.

QuoteYou take away government involvement, and you take away the power of corporations to abuse the system.

as I said - take away the government's privilege granting ability and we have no more corporations because they couldn't compete with Mom & Pop shops selling cooperatively produced, high quality, local goods.

so the problem is that the corporations WANT  and NEED the state to protect their interests/profits...

when are you people going to wake up?

Murray Rothbard and the new left revisionist historians Willam Appleman Williams, Gabriel Kolko, James Weinstein figured all of this out 40 years ago!

The state has ALWAYS intervened on behalf of business at the expense of the individual because that is who funds their campaigns.

cathleeninnh

Caring about quality includes the ability to judge when higher quality is desired and when lower quality is acceptable. I want them both available with the appropriate price difference. Let's just leave the government out of the equation and let the chips fall where they may.

Surely it is not just the GOP.  Wal-Mart is big in AR and Hillary used to have partial control over the company.
