An unlawful order might be...

Hey we don't want any of your protest signs to be in the media's view of the hotel W. is speaking at. Laura might see it on TV and realize her hubbie's approval rating is in the 30 percent range.

would you mind inviting them?  I have done so in the past but get burned out on it.

what do you guys think is a "lawful order"?

I think it is something like:
"Step back from those people who are doing no harm - RIGHT NOW!
LEAVE THOSE PEOPLE ALONE!  DO NOT molest these inocent people!
YOU KNOW THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER!  You must stop - and you MUST STOP NOW!

It doesn't matter what I think, it matters what the law says.

Quote
644:2 Disorderly Conduct. ? A person is guilty of disorderly conduct if:
...

V. In this section:
       (a) "Lawful order" means:
          (1) A command issued to any person for the purpose of preventing said person from committing any offense set forth in this section, or in any section of Title LXII or Title XXI, when the officer has reasonable grounds to believe that said person is about to commit any such offense, or when said person is engaged in a course of conduct which makes his commission of such an offense imminent;
          (2) A command issued to any person to stop him from continuing to commit any offense set forth in this section, or in any section of Title LXII or Title XXI, when the officer has reasonable grounds to believe that said person is presently engaged in conduct which constitutes any such offense; or
          (3) A command not to enter or a command to leave an area closed pursuant to paragraph IV, provided that a person may not lawfully be ordered to leave his or her own home or business.
       (b) "Public place" means any place to which the public or a substantial group has access. The term includes, but is not limited to, public ways, sidewalks, schools, hospitals, government offices or facilities, and the lobbies or hallways of apartment buildings, dormitories, hotels or motels.
VI. Disorderly conduct is a misdemeanor if the offense continues after a request by any person to desist; otherwise, it is a violation.

I myself can't see how standing at a bus stop holding a sign falls within the bounds of being an offense that would make the order to move to the other side of the street lawful.  But then, I'm not a lawyer.

The paperwork we got today says that we have the trial happening on June 1st.

So 8:15 am is the time for your support crew to arrive...?

Who else can make it out to support Kat and Russell. :)

Wish I could be there, working back to back 12 hour shifts...I hope you guys come out on top!

Recumbent ReCycler

I will try to be there.  I got the OK from my boss to take the day off work.  I think I will probably be able to get out of class.  I'll have to see if I can get someone to take notes for me.  I think that maybe we should try to print up a bunch of flyers to pass out to passers-by while we're outside protesting.  I'll try to come up with something.  Let me know if you have any ideas.  I can print black and white double sided 8.5x11" pages at work at no cost to me (my boss said I can).  Also, I think that we should try to videotape everything.  If possible, we should try to have cameras both inside and outside.  I'll bring my video camera if I can make it.  I can bring extra tapes for my camera, but I'm not sure how long the battery will last.  I'll have to see if I can buy a spare.  I wonder if the courtroom has outlets that I would be able to plug my camera into.  I wonder if they would give me a hard time or tell me that I can't videotape in there.  I think it would be good to document as much as we can.

FTL_Ian

Definitely should come prepared with a spare if possible.  You can't count on the court for squat.

John

I will have just finished many nights in a row of 12 - 13 hr. shifts  . . . I'm out by 5:30 am on the 1st . . . thinking I'll get there nice and early.

I was planning on being outside with my Gadsen flag, but if it is better to go inside for 8:15 I can do that to.

Dave Ridley

Got thru to city solicitor muller's voice mail on Tuesday and left a msg.

Kat Kanning

Good to have people inside and outside.

Thanks, Dada.

Things are looking good for Lauren and Jim to attend!

I was worried that the city might start demolishing the house down the street,
but the odds are going down, according to the local wagering.
