Russell, have you read Adventures in Legal Land?

Here's the author, Marc Stevens on FTL:

Don't waste your time with that nonsense.

Tunga must ask, "but what about the gold fringe and the 14th amendment?"

Tunga

"I am sure there was no man born marked of God above another for none comes into the world with a saddle upon his back, neither any booted and spurred to ride him." Last words of Richard Rumbold before being hanged for planning an insurrection against the tyrant Charles II, 1679

My ass is still a little sore from that ride we took the other day KB but by tomorrow I should like to ride you again. Hush my boy child. It is not so bad your saddle sores is it? For I could ride you without saddle and then you would know for sure what boldness you have in jest you lack in mettle. ;)

ok so what exactly do we want to do the day of the hearing and when?
i basically wrote in the LTE to the union leader that folks should show up at 815

LTE to union leader:

(This is for publication, if you wish)

Dear folks at the Union Leader:

With regard to your Feb. 9 article "Two arrested as protesters gather," I have an update.  As you reported then, Manchester police arrested two Keene residents for carrying signs and refusing to be herded into a "Free Speech Zone" during President Bush's last visit.   The demonstrators, Russell Kanning and Kat Dillon, declined to plea bargain at their initial hearing.  So in the absence of schedule changes, their "Free Speech Trial" will be at 8:15 a.m. on April 5 at Manchester District Court, 35 Amherst St.

They make this sacrifice so you don't have to.  But you are invited to a demonstration in their support, which will occur outside the courthouse at that time.   Details are at NHfree.com, or you can call me:
_____

Gandhi said "non-cooperation with evil is a sacred duty."  Manchester police, like the British troops Gandhi faced down, are not evil persons.   But the practice of arresting individuals-  simply for carrying a political sign in a public area where everyone else was allowed to be -.that practice *is* evil.  It constitutes an assault upon one of the few freedoms Americans have left - the freedom of expression.  New Hampshire officers should have no part in it.

No Dave.  There's no trial on April 5th.  It's April 19th.

I know; i sent the LTE last week when it was my understanding apr 5 was the trial.    as long as there are people outside with signs on apr 5 or some way that people showing up can find us...that's what counts.  Work schedule permitting, i'll be there with my popular little sign and I urge others who can to do the same!

Hmm.. I can't speak personally for it, but it's a logical approach.

You can always chalk a "Free Speece Zone" around yourself and then enlarge it as people join you. :)

ok here is a question I have regarding the hearing on the 5th.  As usual there is a chance i will get called in to work that day at the last minute, so i don't know for sure whether I will be there, as usual it's only an 80% chance.   Would some of you be willing to show up and demonstrate even if I'm not there?  It would help a lot since media may show up expecting a demonstration, and also some people who none of us have met before.  Having someone outside with a sign will point them in the right direction.

I'll be present at the trial proper (not at the hearing on the 5th though)

We met with the ACLU lawyer today.  He's agreed to represent us.   He's going to get the trial delayed and will also get the hearing on April 5th cancelled completely.  We don't have the date of the rescheduled trial yet.

Hooray for the representation!  :occasion16: :occasion18:

Bummer about the further delays and uncertainty, though.

I hear the judges we're likely to get are unlikely to rule in favor of free speech.

I also hear they play with themselves under their robes. >:D

A freestate sovereign should use option 1 on any affidavit filed with the court stating the reason(s) why you feel your natural rights have been violated.

required to be taken before a specified official other than a
notary public), such matter may, with like force and effect, be
supported, evidenced, established, or proved by the unsworn
declaration, certificate, verification, or statement, in writing of
such person which is subscribed by him, as true under penalty of
perjury, and dated, in substantially the following form:

Got a letter from the court officially cancelling the hearing on the 5th.
