"When chemistry is outlawed...

...only outlaws will have bombs?"

I take it as an indictment of our school system that anyone can receive a diploma without knowing several ways to make things go "boom", or spew forth poison gas. It's just basic chemistry to blow things up... people have been doing it for hundreds of years.

The United States CPSC has initiated criminal legal action against us and other chemical suppliers.
In short, the CPSC would like to ban the public from all access to chemicals. This would mean an end to hobbies such as model rocketry, pyrotechnics and of course chemistry. One by one, our freedoms are slowly being taken away from us - this action must be stopped now.

If anyone wants to know the practical implications of such regulation... The day before I heard about this, my 9th grader was telling me about his plans to practice building rocket motors over the summer, so he would be ready for a science project next year.

Many homeschoolers participate in historical reenactments, and cannon fuse (or the preferred method, friction ignitors) are used in -surprise!- cannons in reenactments.

More inanimate substance control, based on what someone might do with it. How long until you have to show RealID and sign a log showing your vehicle's mileage before you can buy gasoline?

They'll stop us from using electricity and water ... for electrolyzing hydrogen!

To combat the problem of micromesh metals, the mortar and pestle will be controlled under the National Firearms Act.

To alleviate the threat of magnesium flares, vintage Lawnboy mowers will be confiscated.

To prevent manufacture of thermite grenades, aluminum and rust will be outlawed.

::)

In an age where Americas's Dumbest Criminals can manufacture methamphetamine out of common household chemicals, does anyone seriously think that knowledge can be controlled sufficiently to prevent manufacture of weapons?

My father was my hero in many ways. When he was a high school senior at the same tiny school where I graduated, a well-meaning lady --the soccer mom of her day-- hosted a talk for concerned ladies, where she proposed strict gun control to end violence. Her talk happened to be in the classroom adjacent to the school shop. As she spoke, Dad spent about 15 minutes in the shop tinkering with some water pipe, a ball bearing, match heads, wood, and rubber bands.

About the time that our speaker was explaing that we could control gun violence if only we would control guns, Dad strolled in and set up a box of phone books and newspapers on the teacher's desk. The speaker stopped, and everyone stared, not knowing what he was doing. He backed off across the room, touched off his quicky zip gun, and blew shreds of paper everywhere.

Speech over, debate goes to the opponent.  >:D

I never did any projects in Chemistry because the district took all the teachers chemicals away.
She literally had a nearly empty rack, with vials of suck interesting substances as salt water and other harmless "chemicals."

Ah, you already posted about this.  Ignore my addition to the Govt. Insanity Chronicles thread then.

It gets real fun in the workplace when the safety department is preparing for a review. All containers must contain safety labelling information, including spray bottles of water. Putting anything into the wrong bottle is a big no-no, such as glass cleaner in a water bottle.

When I asked why the labels were such a big deal, the safety manager told me you had to be able to identify what was in each bottle. When he gigged one of my orderlies for having Simple Green in a glass cleaner bottle, I asked him how he knew, since it was labelled wrong. "Well, I can look at it and see it's green instead of blue." I pointed out that we only have clear water, green cleaner, and blue cleaner, so if you can look at them and tell the difference, there's no need for labels. I got a blank stare and mumbles about safety regulations...  ;D

This is so retarded.

Are they going to outlaw fertilizer next?

On a side note, I enjoyed chemistry.

I have notes somewhere on how to make heroin. That was from a college course, though.

Oh those sort of instructions are floating around everywhere on the web.

I found instructions on how to make a meth lab, as well as tips for keeping it private. I have no idea if they work or not, could be DEA misinformation  :glasses7:

Kat Kanning

They just start following anyone who goes to those websites.

Thespis

My info isn't from a website, it's from an organic chemistry class.

I think they have already restricted the good stuff after Okie City

Kat Kanning

They've restricted poop!?  No wonder so many people are constipated!   :o

Lloyd Danforth

Most non organic fertilizers are varing proportions of nitrogen and two other elements.  The fertilizer that is high in nitrogen is the good stuff.
