Quotelike I said, to ensure "equal liberty" you think property taxes are a good thing

economic rent (tax) is inevitable under conditions of scarcity

QuoteNonsence they still own their own body, and they have just as much right as anybody else to save up their own money and purchase their own property.

I thought you are born with rights and thus they don't have to be purchased or gifted?

to exist is to occupy space...life=land

The property tax revolt will become more and more important in my town. The voters, all 2,000 of them ;) choose higher school spending and elected spenders to the school board.

Ian, I'm already revolted. I need two things to happen first. One is to be physically present in NH so that I can defend my interests in person. The second is to talk to people who have already faced the music. The first condition will be met in May 2006. The second condition will depend who I can find to talk to me about it. I'm glad to hear you may be in NH soon. That way i can also ask you in person how I can get to blow off some steam on your radio show. Cheers.

Damn every one is going to a party in the Free State and IM not even gonna get a T-Shirt. :(

Well, I HAD a FSP shirt, but when my attack horse turned on me, the ER insisted on cutting it into shreds to get me out of it!

Any updates on this thread? Nobody's been flogged, caned, beheaded for failure to pay property taxes?

I'm looking at a "07 Final Real Estate Tax Bill" addressed to, gulp, me. Here's the break down(per $1000):

County Rate:              2.44
Local School Rate:      12.83
State Education Rate:   2.41
Town Tax:                  5.98
Total Tax Rate:          23.66

Oh. I also received this letter :)

Dear Homeowner:

A representative from the Treeville Assessing Office visited your property today as part of its quality review process and/or follow up on Building permits.

Please note the following:
X  Exterior inspection completed day of visit
  X  Interior inspection is recommended
X  Please telephone for an appointment

Please telephone Trollaine from the Planning & Land Use Department (###-#### x-###) to schedule an appointment or with any questions you may have.

Of course I won't be calling them.

That would depend on the local ordinance. Most municipalities add interest charges (rather exhorbitant) after the due date... and have claim after three years of non-payment.
