PORTSMOUTH - A Portsmouth man who was arrested during a March 2005 UNH drug sting pleaded guilty Monday to three counts of selling ecstasy.

Gabriel Kanakis-Hines, 24, of 123 Osprey Drive, pleaded guilty to selling ecstasy to an undercover agent on March 8, March 21 and March 30, 2005, in the vicinity of the University of New Hampshire campus. The New Hampshire office of the U.S. Attorney prosecuted the case and reported Monday that Kanakis-Hines is scheduled to be sentenced June 16.

Prosecutor Don Feith said Kanakis-Hines will likely be sentenced to less than the statutory maximum of 20 years in federal prison for each of the three counts. He was one of nine people arrested during the drug sting, which reportedly followed a three-month investigation.

Feith said his office is also prosecuting two other related cases.

Co-defendant Joshua Meir, 20, of Durham, also pleaded guilty to selling ecstasy to an undercover officer and will be sentenced Friday, said Feith. A third co-defendant, Matthew Bordalo, 24, of Kittery, Maine, is facing two counts of accomplice to sale and two counts of transporting drugs and is scheduled for trial June 6, according to the prosecutor.

The arrests were a result of a joint investigation of the UNH, Durham and Portsmouth Police Departments and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency.

60 years... nice.

Federal prison, too. At least it's not NH taxpayer money at work.

I wonder if judges today even care about double jeopardy. If selling drugs is a crime, it is supposed to be (constitutionally) ONE crime, not "three counts" of selling, three of transporting, three of posession, three of intent to sell... etc.
That just makes the sentence bloated and way to extreme.

 >:(  That's outrageous!

NH taxpayers have to pay for the federal bloat...just not as direct.

Well , these two kids are done for life. Maybe NH will be much safer now. LOL
