Just to bring up RealID again, one of the requirements is that the "Real" DL contain your actual physical address.

I guess someone forgot to tell our Friendly Federal Legislators that there are big hunks of flyover country without actual physical address, where Enhanced 911 is a pipedream, and where addresses are more likely to be directions, sometimes including "right after the tree in the middle of the road".

Mine says PO BOX ..

on the back it says LEGAL ADDRESS:
and then there's an big black line that I drew with a permanent marker. I also destroyed the bar code and scraped off the magstrip, so pretty much only the front of my license is useful. It has the #, that's all a cop needs to "run" it.

Also, those who are trying to hide from abusive people don't want their physical location on a piece of identification that could be seen by a friend of the abuser.

I have a personal mail box (PMB) and "forget" to identify it as such - so it looks like a street address with an apartment number.  That way I don't get any grief from every pimple-faced cashier who whines "but I neeeeeeeed an address or I can't accept your cheeeeeeeeck!!!" but he also can't show up at my house later if he thinks I'm cute.

Per the DMV website, you can apply for a replacement license at a DMV substation. On the application form (http://www.nh.gov/safety/dmv/forms/dsmv450.pdf) you can specify a mailing address. Check off the box beside "I wish to have only my mailing address appear on my driver?s license." The replacement cost is $10.

Matt, was your license issued with your physical address printed on the back?

I didn't know they required you to be signed up for selective service to get a license.

Doesn't look like it is required. Looks like they will register you when your DL app is processed if you check the box.

"I am 18 years old and consent to registration with the Selective Service System, as required by Federal Law."

You don't think they'd deny it if you left it unchecked, or tip off the federal government?

Yikes. I like the idea of affixing a sticker over the entire back of the license which reads "When you start scanning, I stop spending." Or, "More information than you need appears on the front of this license. Why are you reading the back?"

I just blacked out the barcode with a sharpie, scraped off the magstrip (and re-drew it back in with a sharpie). The address also gone.

Yes.

Wait a minute. RSA 263:40-a states:

IV. An individual shall be given an opportunity to determine whether his or her mailing address shall be printed on the license instead of his or her home address. If the individual desires to have the mailing address printed on his or her license, the home address shall not be printed on the license. The individual's home address shall be retained in the department's records. http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/rsa/html/XXI/263/263-40-a.htm

I'm upset at the stories I'm hearing of this whole RSA being ignored by the DMV. >:(
Has anyone else here selected the mailing address option and ended up with their home address on the other side? How about SSN/photo not being deleted as requested?

I don't remember even being given this option. If it was there I'm sure I picked it. My license has mailing address on the front, and had my home address on the back. It was listed as "Legal address"

Maybe because there's no mail delivery in my town, so the mailing address is a PO Box?

PMBs are awesome.  The only government agency that has ever figured out that it was not my home address was the supervisor of elections.  I was shocked when they called me to tell me they needed another address!
