I am curious as to what kind of grocery stores they have in NH, specifically Keene. Of all the places I've lived, Publix is the nicest grocery store I have ever seen.

Dreepa

Shaws,
Hannaford,
MarketBasket
are the major ones.
and small ones that have the 'SHURFINE' brand.

I can't say 100% what they have in Keene.

I'm with you on Publix. I always wished we had them in NC.

My first visit to Hannaford in Keene was surreal. First off, they actually promote the fact that they don't require a discount card on signs in the store and on recorded PA announcements. Then, after I paid for my milk and headed out the door, I saw that they stock the Keene Free Press. ;D

We shop at Hannaford's in Keene and stock the free rack with our paper. :)

I heard a rumor that the Shaws might close giving way to Walmart doubling in size and becoming a truly SuperWalmart. That will be heaven on earth. Cheap ceramic cherries coming from China.

Kat Kanning

I shop at Hanniford's because they don't have one of those cards.

I may not agree with all of Walmart's business practices, but I do love Super Walmart!  We may have to fight against the central planning Walmart haters to get it approved though...

Up here in the North Country (I know you asked about keene, but I've never been to Keene)

There is a Shaw's in Littleton, Lancaster and Gorham, a place called Martin's Food Basket where I used to work in Whitefield, an IGA in Colebrook, Kelly's Food Town in Franconia, and a lot more shaw's. Hannaford is common down south I guess. I think there's one in Plymouth, but I've never been in one before.

Strange how many Shaw's there are up here, when I lived in Connecticut we had Big-Y, Park n Shop, Stop n Shop and Price Chopper.

Also an FYI to people.

Shaw's is owned by Albertsons.  They also own the Lucky grocery store chain.

Here in Pittsburgh we have a grocery store called Giant Eagle, they offer their discount card and I definitatly don't mind having it.  They have a program called Fuel Perks where each $50 you spend in the store you earn 10 cents off per gallon of gas at their chain of gas stations called GetGo, the great thing about this is that they add up, I currently have 70 cents off per gallon and about ten bucks away from earning my next 10 cents off.  I don't mind them seeing what I buy as long as I get this kind of benefit out of it.  I am going to miss Giant Eagle when I move to NH.

No you're not. You're going to discover Stop & Shop, owned by the same people, and get 45 cents off per gallon every time you spend $100, AND a $10 gift card.

I prefer Market Basket - I think they are the least expensive overall. We don't have one in Manchester, so I only go to the one in Londonderry maybe once or twice a month - and I stock up on the items I buy there. They have no memebrship card.

I have been going to Stop n Shop more ofetn now because the give you the $10 gift card and 45¢ off gas coupon every time you spend $100. The gas is also 5¢ off with the card all of the time - so it's a total of 50¢ off.

I hardly ever go to Hannaford. I go to the icky Vista for the deli and if I need something last minute - because it is the closest.

I never shop at just one store - I generally go and buy what is on sale at whichever store and/or what I know is cheaper where. But I have that option since I live in Manchester and all of these stores are not all that far away.

I did not realize that Shaw's was owned by Albertson's/Lucky. I knew they were the same as Star Market. I used to shop at Lucky in CA.

Ha. I used to shop at Safeway out there. I think I might still have a couple of their cards laying around, none of them with my name of course. :)

Take a look at this website.

Market Basket is by far the best value for the dollar.  I have found the food selection is much less than where we lived in Illinois.  I can  not get a lot of items I use to buy in Illinois.  This should be good for my waist line but somehow I still managed to gain weight since moving here.

Shaw's is union and more expensive than the rest. I also found the employees are not as friendly or work as hard as those as those at the Market Basket.
