I wouldn't lay into scoop too hard; she's on the right track simply by virtue of the fact that she is paying attention to this issue and interviewing real people.   I have some minor issues with the story, but the important thing is that a pro-liberty message is getting through and reporters are starting to realize this forum is a good place to get those "scoops."

She was the first one to really figure it out, so good for her.

I also didn't notice any major factual errors on the first pass, though maybe I missed something.

Some might say he is clueless about where the Federal Monies come from. I believe he knows full well, but he also knows where his bread and butter come from and is parroting the Government line to keep his bread and butter coming.

My God this is stupid

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Would Ed Brown ("They're prepared to lose,"Monitor, June 12) prefer to live in a society ruled by anarchy, where the strong get what they want? How about we go back to the vassal system, where we toil our lives away being ruled by an overlord of some sort?
Well, we currently live under a vassal system. Just because the overlords are ellected democratically doesn't mean we don't have overlords. I'd say having a third of your money confiscated at the point of a gun from Government sort of forces people to toil their lives away paying tribute to their overlords.
Quote
Look at the big picture is what I say to him and others who share his beliefs. Our federal taxes are funding the government so it can in turn help us out.
What has the Federal government ever done for US. Start wars? Prevent private charities from providing food and shelter to homeless? (See FEMA) Give money to politically connected corporations? Force mothers into poverty lifestyles by making them dependent on welfare hand-outs?
Regardless, New Hampshire sends more money to the fed then it gets back from it every year, and that's after 70% is taken off the top during the round trip by all the bureaucrats and pencil pushers in between.
Quote
I work for the state of New Hampshire, and we get hundreds of millions of dollars in federal money every year to help with everything from health care to the very roads that lead by Mr. Brown's house. It would be impossible for New Hampshire to cover the costs of maintaining every road, hospital, school, etc., that federal funds help support.
I think you'll find that if NH citizens got to keep their money the NH government would be able to afford to build those roads all by itself. And Many of the roads that are currently built aren't needed but are nothing but pork baralling. And our health-care system is crap (I need to edit that a bit) precisely because it is so socialized, and the Federal Dept of Education has so many mandates now it's almost not possible to teach in the government schools anymore.
You're showing your true colors Mr Rhodes. You like the fact the fed steals 30% or better of our income in various ways because it's job security for you. Perhaps it's time you learned out to make a living by engaging in volentary exchange and mutual cooporation like the rest of us, instead of simply being a harpy for the State.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

If anybody wants to take that, edit it, and submit that to the Monitor. Be my guest. Just submit it under your name. I don't want to be accused of carpet bagging being an out-of stater and all.

Got this in a mass mail from one of the Rangers

----
Greetings All,

I'm sure most of you have heard about the IRS
issues with ed and Elaine Brown. There are 17
federal indictments on the list of charges put
forth by the DOJ. They are currently scheduled
for trial on July 18, 2006.

They have submitted a motion for continuation to
move the trial date back, in order that they have
more time to prepare for trial. They are
currently unable to obtain the services of an
attorney (I wonder why).

There will be a hearing on the motion this
Friday, June 16, 2006. Supposedly the motion will
be decided on this same Friday. The hearing is
scheduled for 9:30 and is in the U.S. District
Court on Pleasant Street, in Concord. The court
is on Pleasant Street between South Street (also
Green St.from the north) and Spring Street.

If you are able to make it, great - the more
public attention, the more public awareness, the
more nervous the prosecutors and judges. If you
plan to attend, please dress neatly, it does
matter. Don't be afraid to wear a tie and to
invite some friends.

I will keep you informed of any further
information.  God Bless. Bernie

Earlier today I called the local U.S. Attny, Bill Morse who is handling this case.   Gave my name and had a quick polite conversasion about Ed Brown.

Basically just told him if I wanted to express polite but angry disapproval of his persecution of them.   I thanked him for being accessible to phone calls,  told him if he wants people like me to stop being angry he should go after people who hurt others not people who, like Ed, refuse to hurt others by funding nasty programs.

He was polite and didn't say much, just asked me "anything else on your mind?"  I said nope that's it.

with regard to the LTE published against the browns, well that's great actually that he has touched a nerve.

Of course, Ed will probably lose in court but he has already won a lot of publicity and sparked a lot of debate.

If they want attention and to intimidate the government lawyers ..... then why not pitchforks and overalls? Why play their game and follow their rules?

When I support the Browns, I will try to do it in a way which makes them comfortable.

I am ready (and would prefer) to protest with Gadsen in hand prior to court, and to then apear in court in the garg that the government boys (and girls) prefer not to see supporting their prey.

But if the Browns prefer that I leave the Gadsen in the car (I always keep one there for the ready) then I will support them in the manner they (the Browns) choose.
Thanks Kat.

I actively filter it out. ;)

We recommend people move to Keene where we don't have it in the city water. :)

I think u guys can do the pitchforks with no worries.

Ed is more flexible than I've been giving him credit for when it comes to us supporting him.  he would be very happy if we showed up outside the court in overalls and pitchforks with gadsdens.   Based on what he's told me in the past he might like ties even better, but when I talked to him last month he was really not too picky about how we help.
