It would be a good idea to use the banned chemical DDT to kill off the mosquitos. This stuff was blamed in some liberal book for softening Robins' eggs and thus was banned. But this stuff has been known as the savior to humanity. It is so effective, that some ECO-extremists favored the ban. As an example, there was well over a million cases of malaria in Sri Lanka in the early seventies. Just a few years later after the spraying application of this insecticide there was a mere seventeen cases. Talk about success. BTW, the adverse affects on Robins' eggs was eventually attributed to acid in the rain. But the damage was already done in the EPA's mind.

Same story in South Africa.  They used DDT until 1996, and less than 10,000 cases of malaria were reported each year.  In 2000, there were 65,000 cases and 458 deaths.  In 2004, DDT spraying resumed, and only 89 deaths occurred from malaria.

Dreepa, or anyone - if you'd like to buy my old Mosquito Magnet Liberty for $50, I'll be willing to part with it.  I just put out our new Liberty Plus and wound up the extension cord that was running out to it.

It doesn't have a stand, so I've been using 1 1/4" wooden dowel and cinderblocks.  I have two more nets for it, and the things you'd need to get to help insure successful operation would be a QuickClear Valve adapter tool, and a tank valve reset tool - or borrow them from your neighbors as I've been doing.

If you're interested, call me at 424-6916.  I'm leaving for Russia to finish our adoption on Tuesday morning, but we can arrange the pickup with Kevin who'll be house- and dog-sitting.

Why kill the 'skeeters with petrochemicals and electricity when there are cute, furry animals who'll do the job for free?
Next week we're putting up a bat-house.
I'll evaluate how well it works and will post the results here ;)

Bat houses are good, but it may take a while before you get any bats to move in.  I had one when I was younger, but I left it where it was when I moved out.  It was at least a few months before any bats moved in.

We put up a bat house a month or so ago, but no bats yet.

Just by putting the house in an area attractive for them to nest in.

Bats have a bad rap, lot of myths out there about bats.
They have an important role in the circle of life. :-)

Ok so I bought one.  It has been running for a week.  The trap is just full of mosquitos.... NICE!

Kat Kanning

Is it coming to PorcFest?   ;D

You stand in your yard and look like an attractive girl or boy Bat, or, like a friendly old Bat who would make a good neighbor.

That's nice, but the relevant question is: is your yard less moquito-infested?
