Also that woodchuck whistlepig that was hanging around.... well either got a lot smaller or had kids.  I have now seen a small woodchuck whistlepig tooling around my back yard.

Al Gore would have you believe there's a Bear-Man-Pig in those woods.

I don't think I saw a single porcupine the entire time I was in NH (well, apart from all of us.)

Although, when Rich, Mike-Mike, and I were driving down Vermont we spotted some roadkill with quills on the side of the road. :'( But I guess that's indicative of what happens to freedom in Vermont.

lots of porcs. one good thing about new england is that there really aren't as many things here that can kill you. I myself have never encountered a poisonous snake, spider, or anything else. Bears will kill you if you try to give them a cookie or something, and moose will walk in front of your car (be careful!!). I've been told that bald eagles come as far south as the great bay area near dover and portsmouth, although i have never seen one. Lots of brook trout for fishing, whitetail deer for hunting, white rabbits, etc.

We saw 4 or 5 "roadkills with quills". One was in PA, two in VT, one or two in NH.

We were very surpised at the first one. "Heyyyy.... that ain't right!"

Porcupines (the zooilogical ones) are slow and I'm tempted to say not very alert. Sadly, I have shot a few before, but it was only because they were causing damage. If I'm ever in that position again, I might try to catch one. Supposedly they do alright as domestics and it would make a cool pet. I wouldn't hope for much cuddling. Of course it would be illegal to have one as a pet in NH >:(

You could catch one actually, because they don't run as fast as people.

I saw a bald eagle today in Nelson. Appropriate since it's Independence Day weekend. My girlfriend saw a fox on the edge of the woods while we were up at Roger's. The wild life up there must be well fed.

porcs are simply adorable. for something that has spikes all over its body, it's incredibly cute. there's really no harm in getting close to them, it seems. a lot of people think that they can "shoot" their quills, which is simply not true. they can just release them if you touch them. we've had a few dogs come from the woods with quills in their snouts hehe.
