New laws taking effect today

There are a couple of pro-liberty laws among those taking effect today.

Other new laws that take effect today will:

Limit the use of information recorded by data-recording devices in vehicles. The devices capture information such as speed, location, steering and brake performance and seatbelt status for retrieval after a crash. The law makes the information the property of the vehicle?s owner. The data can only be retrieved by someone other than the owner with his permission, with a court order, by a technician servicing the vehicle or to determine the need for emergency medical help.

Beginning in January, new vehicles sold or leased in the state must disclose in the owner?s manual if the vehicle is equipped with the device.

Prohibit the state and local governments from using surveillance devices, such as cameras, to identify vehicle owners or a vehicle?s occupants while on public roads unless authorized specifically by law or under certain other circumstances, such as for the security of the Interstate 95 Piscataqua River Bridge, Sarah Mildred Long Bridge and the Memorial Bridge, all in Portsmouth. Exceptions also are made on a case-by-case basis in investigations of a particular violation or crime.

Who doesn't like new laws?

I read in the paper yesterday that towns were going to start enforcing some RSA banning having more than 1 unregistered car on your property without a junkyard license, because unused cars were a place that mosquitos can breed.
